  19. 1stIRU-LAS-AULT Seminar on International Transport Agreements The IRU and the AULT organised together with the LAS the first joint seminar on international road transport agreements in Cairo on 25-26 October 2009. On 28 October 2009, the LAS Council of Arab Ministers of Transport called upon 22 Arab States to join and implement the UN Conventions, notably TIR, and to continue cooperation with the IRU. Arab Ministers bids farewell to the first TIR pilot trucks The League of Arab States (LAS)’s Council of Transport Ministers joined the IRU and the Arab Union of Land Transport (AULT) in Alexandria at a Special Ceremony, to bid farewell to the first two trucks carrying goods from Egypt to Turkey under a special TIR Pilot Project. During the Ceremony, Chairman of the Executive Council Minister of Transport of Egypt H.E. Mohamed Rashad and Chairman of the Council Assembly Minister of Transport of Saudi Arabia H.E. Jabara Bin Eid Al Sourayri delivered the first TIR Carnets for symbolic use. (c) International Road Transport Union (IRU) 2012

IDB Project kicks-off! • Since March 2012, AULT and IRU implemented an IDB Project to: • Study status of the UN Conventions in LAS region and identify main benefits of TIR System as a priority • Monitor actual road transport deliveries along main itineraries to identify impediments to road transport (NELTI-4) • Develop professional training:CPC Manager, ADR • Carry out regional pre-feasibility of full-fledged LAS Truck Accident Causation Study (c) International Road Transport Union (IRU) 2012
