Course Objectives • Upon completion of this course the student will be able to describe the role of the ED nursing staff and regional HEAR radio roll call. • Upon completion of this course the student will be able to describe the role of the Tidewater EMS Council and regional HEAR radio roll call. • Upon completion of this course the student will be able to describe the importance of the regional HEAR radio roll call.

  5. Background of Roll Call • Roll call was developed to ensure that in case of large scale incidents and emergencies, all of the are hospitals maintained a basic form of radio communications with each other

  6. Why is a Roll Call Important • Ensure functionality of HEAR • Keeps staff proficient in utilizing the HEAR Procedure and Time • Roll call will be completed twice a week, Wednesday AM at 0500 and Friday AM at 0800 • Responsibility of completing roll call will rotate among facilities.

  7. Coordinating Emergency Department HEAR Roll Call Procedure • Document the HEAR Roll Call by completing the HEAR Roll Call Report Form. • Dial 1-3336 to activate all the ED/hospitals in the Tidewater Regions

HEAR Roll Call Procedure continued • Key the HEAR microphone and follow the script as shown below. • Document the acknowledgement of your transmission by each ED/hospital during the roll call by entering “Y” or “N” in the box to the right of the name of the facility being called. • Fax the completed form to the Tidewater EMS Council a (757) 963-0632.

  9. Roll Call Script • "This is ________________________ Hospital/Emergency Department." • "This is test of the Hospital Administrative and Emergency Radio system. All area Emergency Departments and hospitals please acknowledge your receipt of this transmission as your facility is called.” • “Come in [call each facility in the order shown in the table below]… • Come in [name of facility], etc., until all facilities have been called

  11. Responding Emergency Department Procedure • Acknowledge your reception of the HEAR Roll Call transmission when you facility’s name is called. • Key the microphone and state” [Insert the name of your facility], message received.”

  12. Ending the Roll Call After EDs/Hospitals acknowledge, continue with: • "This is _______________ Hospital/Emergency Department. Each facility is reminded to log onto WebEOC and update your facility’s Daily Diversion and Bed Status Board. This concludes the test of the Hospital Administrative and Emergency Radio system."

TEMS Role • In broad terms, the council's communications plan calls for: • maintaining (or adding) VHF radios in all ambulances and hospitals for the purposes of mutual aid communications, hospital-to-hospital communications and backup ambulance-to-hospital communications; • To receive completed roll call sheets from the participating facilities • To complete quarterly report card back to Nurse Managers • To ensure participating facilities receive feedback from roll calls
