  1. The Evening Promise Program2010-2011

  2. Changes have been made To live is to change, and to be perfect is to have changed often.   John Henry Newman

  3. Goals of the Promise Program • To learn: • How to learn. • How to properly respond in a school setting. • How to manage time wisely. • How to enjoy school without getting in trouble.

  4. To be successful in school, YOU must learn to be receptive so you can receive!

  5. Being receptive begins with: • Listening to others…your peers, teachers, administrators, parents. • Following classroom expectations. • Completing assignments.

  6. Promise Point System • The student will follow classroom expectations to be eligible for rewards, which can include: • Eating lunch in the lunchroom with your peers. • Taking part in special activities. • Plus opportunities to use I-pods during online study and concession stand before classes begin. • Field Trips • “To Be Announced”

  7. I-Pod Info • Bring your own device and headphones. • NO internet music sites. Ever. Period. • If you are playing your music so loudly that the rest of the class is disrupted, you may lose your I-Pod privilege. • If the previous day’s score sheet does not show a 3 or 4 score, you must turn the device in with your cell phone.

  8. Your Score Counts! The most important reward is having a HIGH AVERAGE in your behavior points. Used for: • Your class participation grade • An item to consider when you may be eligible for getting out of the evening promise program!

  9. Classroom Expectations • Completing assigned tasks! • Bell rings = Class begins.  (In class, trash thrown away, folders/assignments at the ready, no food) • Seated at your work area the entire class. Bell to bell! • Using appropriate, accountable talk! • No electronic devices or non-educational websites! • On task the entire period.

  10. Classroom Expectations at Work • Each day you will begin with 200 points. • Each class you will have an opportunity to earn 100 points each class by fulfilling ALL classroom expectations. • Completing assigned tasks! (40 pts) • Door closes = Class begins. Seated at your work area the entire class. (10 pts) • Using appropriate, accountable talk! (20 pts) • No electronic devices or non-educational websites! (10 pts) • On task the entire period! (20 pts)

  11. Classroom Expectations at Work • Each day you will have an opportunity of receiving up to 800 total points. • For each class, you will be evaluated on the expectations. • For each expectation achieved, you will receive positive points. • For each expectation not achieved, you will be deducted points. • There is NO “even;” you earn or lose.

  12. Period 1 – On the right track!

  13. Period 2 – Messed up a little, but still good

  14. Period 3 – You couldn’t resist checking out websites for shoes!

  15. Period 4 – Uh-oh! Get the picture?

  16. Star System • Daily perfect score = 4 stars! • Loss less than 50 pts = 3 stars! • Loss less than 100 pts = 2 stars! • Loss between 110-210 = 1 star! • Loss more than 210 = 0 stars!

  17. The Goal is to get 4 Stars

  18. Rewards for Meeting Expectations • For each day you earn 4 or 3 stars, you will be permitted: • To eat lunch the next day with your peers in the cafeteria during your assigned lunch time! • Have iPods in class as long as it doesn’t interfere with the class! Abuse it and lose it! • Permitted to be escorted to the concession stand to grab a snack that will be devoured before entering class or during the lunch period. • Behavior time with games!

  19. Consequences for Not Meeting Expectations • For each day you earn 2 stars you will only earn: • Lunch with peers • Activities

  20. Consequences for Not Meeting Expectations • For each day you only 1 star, you will only earn: • Lunch with peers • No Activities This consequence – a score of 1 - applies when you miss school as well!

  21. Consequences for Not Meeting Expectations • For each day you have a score of 0 – zero – points • No Activities • Lunch detention with bagged lunch!

  22. Star System • If you are able to maintain a 2 star average from Friday to Thursday…you will be permitted to participate in special activities, usually on that Friday. • If you have a five day average of 1.99 star or less you will participate in a 1 hr behavior management class during that special activity time.

  23. Star System • What does this have to do with getting out of night school? • You must have a 2-star average or better. • The Promise Program involves a minimum 9-week participation before we discuss leaving.
