  2. Do astronauts require more or less sleep than normal when they are in Space? • Astronauts sleep 0.5-2.5 less hours then on Earth. • Have around 6 hours sleep. • Can have as little as 4 hours sleep and not be tired. • Sleep ranges from 4-8 hours. • Don’t require more sleep in space, only need around the same as Earth.

  3. Sarah’s bibliography http://science1.nasa.gov/science-news http://www.scienceinschool.org http://www.pbs.org/spacestation/statiion/living_sleeping.htm

  4. Do astronauts sleep in a bed?If they don’t, how do they sleep? • Sleeping in space is depended on the requirements of the particular mission • In the first flight astronauts slept in the commander and pilot seats • They want to make sure they are available at all times. • Other crew members sleep in their seats, in sleeping bags or in bunks.

  5. GEORGIAS CONTINUED • The sleeping bags are like cocoon they are strapped to their locker were all of there stuff is stored in. • In microgravity there is no “up” and the astronauts can sleep as comfortably in the position as the horizontal. • A bunked kit was made available by the time of the sts-9 mission crew members could sleep in a three horizontal bunks.

  6. How many hours of sleep they get • In earth we all need beauty sleep, 8 hours is the length of hours we need. • Astronauts sleep 4-8 hours each night • They have to take pills and medicine to make them sleep • Even with the help of medicine they don’t get as much sleep like they would on earth.

  7. How they relax • When they have time to relax they connect with friends and family • They connect either email, ham radio, phones or the internet • They also get packages with CDs ,books, magazines, photos and letters • They say that the most relaxing thing to do is look out into space
