  2. Opening a File • Open Word • Click the Microsoft Office button(Very top left hand corner). A menu appears • Click Open. The Open dialog box appears • Use the Look In field to move to the folder in which you saved the file • Click on the file name of the file you want to open • Click Open. The file appears

Saving a File • Click on the office button (top left of screen) • Click Save As • Select the Folder in which you would like to save it • Give the Document a name • Click Save Once you have saved your document once any changes you make can be saved quickly by clicking the disc icon next to the office button. This should be done regularly so you do not risk loosing your work

  4. Opening a Blank Page • Open Microsoft Word • Click on the Office Button • Click on “New” • Select Blank Document • Click Create and the new page will open

  5. Bold, Italicising and Underlining Text • Type your text into Word • Highlight the portion you would like to change • On the toolbar you will see 3 Icons a B– Bold I – Italics U – Underline 4. Select the emphasis you would like for your text

  6. Cut and Paste • Highlight the text or select the picture you want to move. • To cut the text use the scissors icon on the toolbar. This will remove the text or picture from your document. • Move the cursor to the point where you would like the text or picture to be. • Click on the clipboard (paste) icon and your text or picture will be inserted.

  7. Copy and Paste • Highlight the text or select the picture you want to move. • To copy the text or picture use the copy icon on the toolbar. This will create a copy of the text or picture from your document. • Move the cursor to the point where you would like to insert the copied image or text. • Click on the clipboard (paste) icon and your text or picture will be inserted.

  8. Formatting your Font • To change the font of your text highlight the text • Click the down arrow next to the Font field. A menu of fonts appears. • Move the cursor over the list of fonts • Click the font name to select the font you want • To change the size of your font again highlight the text • Click the down arrow next to the font size in the font field (if you hover over a size word will show you a preview of how the text will look) • Click the size you want for your text

  9. Changing the Colour of your Text • Type your text and highlight it • In the Font Field there is an icon with a A and then colour bar underneath • Click on the down arrow next to the A • A Menu of colours will drop down and select the colour you want by clicking

Undo and Redo • If you have made a change or a mistake you would like to take out of your document you can do so using the undo arrow. • To do this click on the blue arrow next to the office button in the top left hand corner. • Alternatively, to redo something that has been removed: • Select the blue circular arrow next to the office button and actions will be added back into the document.

  11. Bullets and Numbering • Select the words you just typed. • In the Paragraph group, click the down arrow next to the Bullets button . The Bullet Library appears. • Click to select the type of bullet you want to use. Word adds bullets to your list.Note: As you move your cursor over the various bullet styles, Word displays the bullet style onscreen. • Inserting numbering is done in the same way using the number menu to the left of the bullets

  12. Inserting Page Numbers • Choose the Insert tab from the top of the menu bar • Click the Page Number button in the Header & Footer group. A menu appears. • Select the positioning and style of number you would like • Click to insert

  13. Setting Margins • Choose the Page Layout tab. • Click Margins in the Page Setup group. A menu appears. • Select the size you want for your margins or choose the custom option at the bottom to set at appropriate size

Paragraph Alignment • Select the paragraph you have typed • In the paragraph section of the toolbar look for the icons • The icon on the left will line up all text with the left margin • The icon in the middle will centre your text • The icon on the right will align text with the right margin • This button will make all your text line up on both sides of your paragraph (justify)

  15. Changing Line Spacing • Place your cursor anywhere in the first paragraph of the text you want to adjust • Choose the Home tab • Click the Line Spacing button in the Paragraph group. A menu of options appears. • Select the spacing you would like for that paragraph by clicking

Inserting Pictures • To insert a picture from clipart: • Select the insert tab • Click on Icon titled clip art • Search for the image you want • Place your mouse over the picture you want and an arrow will appear on the right • Click the arrow and your picture will be inserted • To insert a picture from somewhere word • Locate your picture • Right click on the image and select copy • Go back to your word document, right click and select paste

Editing a Picture • To make changes to a picture you have inserted double click on the picture and the picture tool bar will appear at the top of your screen • Click on the text wrapping button in the arrange field of the tool bar and select how you would like the picture to look in your document • Using this tool bar you can also adjust the size and crop the picture to suit

  18. Adding a Page Boarder • Click on the page layout tab at the top of the screen • Click on the page boarders tab in the page background tab • Scroll through the list and select the style of boarder you want • Click on the one you want and press ok • To remove the boarder, click again on the page boarder tab, and on the left hand side of the dialog box select none and press ok

  19. Inserting Word Art • Select the insert tab at the top of the screen • Select the Icon word art – with a blue capital A • Select the style of lettering you want and click • Enter the text you want in that style into the box • Press ok and move words to where you would like them in the document by clicking and dragging them

  20. Insert a Shape • Select the insert tab • Click on the shapes icon and a menu will drop down • Select the shape you would like to use in your document • The arrow cursor will change to a t and you then draw the shape by clicking and dragging • Once the shape is inserted you can adjust the shape and position like you would for a picture
