  3. Introduction • Examined the feasibility of free UAA daycare for full time students • Determined UAA parent students demands • Considered the idea of using student caregivers in daycare

  4. Average monthly fee for the daycare is $700 in Alaska • Percentage of entering class who graduated within a recent four year period is only 9% • Tenaina Center is located on UAA territory (Private, non-profit organization, legally independent of UAA)

Methods • Researched problems of daycares in different states and the cost related problem of higher education • Researched statistical information for student loans all over the states • Reviewed TenainaChild Development Center • Designed and distributed the questionnaire to fellow UAA English 212 students • Analyzed the data and created graphics using the statistical information provided by the respondents.

  6. Criteria for Feasibility • Are the parent students ready to take 12 or more credits per semester? • Do the UAA student parents need free daycare? • Do the parents entrust their kids to student caregivers? • Would UAA be able to fund the daycare?

Conclusions • Most of the students are no in need of daycare as they have no children • More than half of all interviewed students think that UAA should offer free daycare • The most of interviewed students work and can’t get full time tuition • There will be cost savings to the administration by inviting student caregivers

  11. Recommendations • More research is recommended • A larger feasibility study should be conducted • A detailed financial project should be developed • Invite students of early education to take their internship at the university’s daycare is recommended
