Hiking Angel’s Landing in Zion National Park By: Woolly Mammoth Woolen Company

Zion, you have our heart. It was during late August when we arrived at Zion National Park in Southwest Utah, about a two and half hour drive from Las Vegas. Upon entering the park on a late afternoon, we were greeted by the friendliest park ranger in America who proceeded to give us a park map and provide us with local weather conditions for the next few days. She pointed us in the general direction of our campsite where we went to set up shop for the next few days. After pitching the tent, laying out our wool camping blankets, Black And White Wool Blanket and cooking hot dogs and burgers over the open flame of the fire pit, we decided to call it a night in order to be well rested for the challenge that lay ahead: Angel’s Landing.

  1. Hiking Angel’s Landing in Zion National Park By: Woolly Mammoth Woolen Company Zion, you have our heart. Angel’s Landing is a very strenuous 5-mile hike with steep switch backs and deathly steep drop-offs in certain areas. We woke up extra early in order to catch the first bus to the trail head. The hike begins in a scenic, cool canyon. It’s best to be prepared with multiple layers if you hit the trail early. The trail then begins to gain elevation through a series of switchbacks called “Walter’s Wiggle.” These switchbacks will have your glutes burning, but the views are amazing. Once you reached the top of Walter’s Wiggles you’ll follow the narrow ridgeline the rest of the way. The trail narrows at one point to about two feet wide in one section but thankfully the bolted in chain links to guide you to the peak. It’s grueling and empowering effort to make it to the peak, but once you reach the top you’ll understand why it’s called Angel’s Landing. After soaking in the views and recouping our energy, we headed back to our campsite where we shared stories around the campfire and wrapped up in our quality wool blankets as we relaxed under the stars… Another carefree summer day in Zion.
