Definition of Distance Learning A method of learning in which the learner is physically separated from the teacher and the institution sponsoring the instruction.
History of Distance Learning It began in mid 1800 Originally correspondence course instructed students using postal service for submission of work. It was used in Print format, Radio, Telephone and now Video Conferencing Computers.
Pros and Cons for Teachers • Cons • Inability to monitor cheating. • Less ability to control internet use. • Less social interaction with students. Pro and Con Using distance learning tools can both challenge you as a teacher and be a challenge. Pros • More detail instruction. • Less travel • More access to technology
