  3. Today What was our process for implementing the teacher evaluation system while following the guidelines established by Virginia Department of Education? Soft Launch-training and developing the system; faculty input and buy-in work; SUPPORT! Hard Launch-making Teacher Performance Evaluation System (TPES) Landing-completed the first summative and interim evaluations; encouragement and reflection

Time Machine 1998: Standards of Learning were implemented adding a new layer of accountability for students, teachers, and schools 1999: Education Accountability and Quality Enhancement Act passed by VA General Assembly October 2002:Stepping Up to the Plate-Virginia’s Commitment to a Highly Qualified Teacher in Every Classroom 2002-2003 school year: First IPAL report 2002: The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools began emphasizing a more data-driven process for “School Improvement”; emphasized again when the division moved to AdvancED and district accreditation-School Improvement Life Cycle 2002: No Child Left Behind was authorized with a goal of 100% of students passing state tests by 2014 2002: Teachers were required by the state to be highly qualified in their field (Title I)

Time Machine 2010: The Virginia Department of Education established a work group to conduct a comprehensive study of teacher evaluation in July 2010. 2011: VDOE begins reporting growth percentiles in addition to scaled scores for students who participate in SOL testing for reading and mathematics in grades 4-8 and Algebra I through grade 9. SGP 2011: The revised guidelines were approved by the Virginia Board of Education in April 2011 and became effective July 1, 2012. However, divisions may elect to use the materials earlier. 2012: First successful submission of the Master Schedule Collection-Instructional Personnel and Licensure Report due March 2, 2012. 2012: Powhatan School Board adopted the PCPS TPES June 19, 2012 to be in effect for the 2012-2013 school year.

SMART GOALS “For the current school year, all of my students will demonstrate measurable growth in US History 1865 to Present Standards of Learning (SOL) as determined by a comparison of pre-assessment (baseline data) and post-assessment scores. Specifically, on the post assessment, which will be a state released SOL test administered spring 2013: group 1 students will achieve a score ranging between 40% to 50%, group 2 students will achieve a score ranging between 51% to 65%, group 3 students will achieve a score ranging between 66% to 76%, and group 4 will achieve a score ranging between 77% to 100%.”
