January 15 • CLO – STUDENTS WILL: • Demonstrate mastery of content from chapter 20 by answering the focus questions individually • Participate in an activity demonstrating the perils and challenges of factory work • Discuss the main ideas of chapter 20 in a large group • AGENDA • Focus Questions (15 – 20 minutes) • Factory Work Activity • Discussion • Reading Notes 21 • How to skim! • GIFT – Remaining class time to be spent reading chapter 21 • HOMEWORK • Read chapter 21 and complete reading notes

  3. TASK • Answer the three focus questions from chapter 20 in detail with evidence (don’t laundry list!) • When you’re finished write down at least one question you have regarding the material/chapter.

  4. Chapter 20 – Focus Questions • What factors fueled the growth of the post-Civil War economy? • What were the methods and achievements of major entrepreneurs? • What led to the rise of large labor unions?

January 17 • CLO – STUDENTS WILL: • Demonstrate mastery of content from chapter 21 by completing a short written quiz individually • Participate in an activity designed to mimic the process of immigrating through Ellis Island in small groups and reflect on their experience. • AGENDA • Chapter 21 Quiz • Chapter 21 Presentation – Gaby & Alfred • Immigration, Tenements, Coney Island • HOMEWORK • Read chapter 22 & complete reading notes (will be posted online by tomorrow)

  10. FRQ • Directions: You have FIVE minutes to create an outline and thesis statement • Analyze the ways in which farmers and industrial workers responded to industrialization in the Gilded Age (1865 – 1900)
