  3. Speech and Multimedia QoS/QoE ETSI STQ Identity Card • Current Work • User related QoS &Acoustic safety • NGN related quality (eg FAX) • Speech Terminal requirements and tests • Testing Mobile services Quality • Multimedia and Audiovisual Quality • Quality metrics (speech, multiplay,…) • Plugtests on speech quality • Collaborations within ETSI • DECT, HF, SAFETY, TETRA,TISPAN, USER, ATTM • 3GPP [SA4] • Standardization Partners • ITU-T (SG12, SG16, SG13), TIA, DECT Forum (CatIQ)CEN/CENELEC, GCF, IEEE, CTIA • Research Partners • University of Zilina, CINI Potentially • Technical University Berlin, Telecom Paris Potential Future Work • Superwideband and fullband terminals • Guidelines to improve quality of electronic tools used for meetings, conferences,… • Measurement standards & best practices for speech and multimedia terminals and services, for all (access) networks • E2E quality in interconnection scenarios Ensuring standards for enhanced quality and use of services Requirements and test methods to provide and monitor media Quality to Users ETSI STQ Presentation 3

  4. Terms of Reference TC STQ (3 meetings/year - 3x5 days) Speech (Narrowband wideband super WB&Fullband ) quality, but also now multimedia Quality - User related QoS Metrics and test methods for media quality NGN related QoS Strong collaborations inside ETSI (DECTDECT Forum/CATiq, TISPAN, User) and outside ETSI ( mainly ITU-T SG12 and 3GPP SA4, GCF) Interoperability events, Workshops and STFs WG STQ Mobile (4 meetings/year – 4x2 days) QoS parameters and test methods for popular services in GSM & 3G Networks (a set of 6 TS, continuously updated)  drive tests Collaborations with 3GPP SA and IREG and recently with ETSI TETRA ETSI STQ Presentation 4

  5. Test Methods Plugtests • STQE. Tests including acoustical interface for IPGW and IPphones. A new programme includes DECT terminals 5 STQEvents already done TR 102 648 Series provide test methods and results (anonymous reports) To be noted: Need to improve echo and double talk performance performances aux niveaux écho et double parole. • Speech quality analysis in context of interworking Plug test for multiplay services (tests done at the electrical interface) TR 102 716series on test methodology and recently approved a TR providing results of a test campaign ETSI STQ Presentation

  6. User related QoS (1/2) • New plans in STQ and STQ Mobile: to defined a QoS/QoE framework • Objective: October 2010 • Inputs to ITU-T QoS Handbook ETSI STQ Presentation

  7. User related QoS (2/2) • REG/STQ-00101: Series (Revision of EG 202 057 Series) • Recently updated: User related QoS parameter definitions and measurements; Part 2: Voice telephony, Group 3 fax, modem data services and SMS Ongoing work: new QoS parameters in the context of NGN. A first result: the new parameter " Call establishment delay" for NGN has been defined  a new TR "Measurements of Call Establishment Performance in IP Networks" has been approved in jan.2010 • This new parameter could be added in the future release of EG 202 057 -2 ETSI STQ Presentation

  8. NGN related QoS and multimedia • STF363 "Quality of service implications of NGN architectures" • A workshop was organised in 2009 (with STF360) • TR102 717 has been published  Describes different reference configurations, identifies standardization gaps and provides roadmap for future actions. • A new TR 102 720 on "Delay variation on access lines".  It explains the mechanism of serialisation delay, gives a (very general) overview over prioritisation and shows how the maximum delay variation due to concurrent traffic can be calculated.. ETSI STQ Presentation

  9. NGN related QoS and multimedia • Perceptual Impact of End-to-End Delay Variation on Fax over IP & Modem over IP • Ongoing work within STF 392. • Framework for end-to-end quality assessment of multimedia services • This Framework could be finalised in June 2010 • ES 202 667 Audiovisual QoS for communication over IP networksRecently updated for LTE and Cable networks  in MV ETSI STQ Presentation

  10. Metrics and Measurement methods • EG 201 377 series "Specification and measurement of speech transmission quality". Part 1 & 2 recently updated and approved • EG 201 377Part 1: Introduction to objective comparison measurement methods for one-way speech quality across networks • ES 201 377 Part 2: Mouth‑to‑ear speech transmission quality including terminals • Part 3: There is a need to update it, but still pending ETSI STQ Presentation

  11. QoS and network performance metrics (1/2) EG/ES 202 765 Series QoS and network performance metrics and measurement methods • Part 1: Generals: indicators displayed according to ITU-T Rec P.505 and not using a single score. • Part 3: Network performance metrics and measurement methods in IP networks (comparisons of parameters defined by IETF and ITU-T. Both recently aproved ETSI STQ Presentation

  12. QoS and network Performance metrics and measurement methods (2/2) - Part 4 (ES): Indicators for supervision of Multiplay services • STQ agreed on the parameters defined for IPTV and VoD. • Video sequences with impairments (Blockiness, Black Screen, Frozen Picture) are freely available. • A table compares tjhe indicators defined for mobile TV (TS 102 250-2 produced by STQ Mobile) and the indicators of DES 202 765-4 • Plan: to aprove it at STQ June meeting • ES 202 765 part 2: Transmission Quality indicators combining Voice Quality metrics.Release 2 in MV ETSI STQ Presentation

  13. Speech Terminals (narrowband and wideband) (1/2) • Transmission requirements for VoIP terminals from a QoS perspective as perceived by the user • Release 2 of ES 202 737 (Narrowband handset/headset), ES 202 738 (Narrowband handsfree), ES 202 739 (wideband handset/headset) and ES 202 740 (wideband handsfree). • DECT EN have been derived from these ES.  CAT iq ETSI STQ Presentation

  14. Speech Terminals (narrowband and wideband) (2/2) • Transmission requirements for wireless terminals from a QoS perspective as perceived by the user • Four TS 103 737, 738, 739, 740 with structures similar to the ES for VoIP • Release 1 aproved in Sept. 2009  GCF  Inputs to 3GPP SA4 & ITU-T SG12 ETSI STQ Presentation

  15. Speech Terminals • New draft EN for maximum acoustic levels. (Mandate M452) • Home gateways • New WI covering wired et wireless accesses and taking into account impairments on access and IP networks. DES 202 718 • A new method for PLC testing ETSI STQ Presentation
