  3. Who is DG JRC and what are we doing? • JRC is the European Commission’s in-house science service. It provides the science for policy decisions, with a view to ensuring that the EU achieves its Europe 2020 goals for a productive economy as well as a safe, secure and sustainable future. • The JRC plays a key role in the European Research Area and reinforces its multi-disciplinarity by networking extensively with leading scientific organisations in the Member States, Associated Countries and worldwide. • Our Mission… is to work in close cooperation with policy Directorates General to provide EU policies with independent, evidence-based scientific and technical support throughout the whole policy cycle. • Our Vision driven by the Europe 2020 Strategy… is to be a trusted provider of science-based policy options to EU policy-makers to address key challenges facing our society, to stimulate innovation and share know-how with the Member States, scientific community and international partners.

  10. Biodiversity at the JRC-IES • Implementation of Horizon 2020 (FP7), • JRC Key Orientations for 2014 – 2015 set out the priorities for the JRC's Work Programme- six policy clusters: 1. Economic and Monetary Union 2. Single market, growth, jobs and innovation 3. Low-carbon economy and resource efficiency 4. Agriculture and global food security 5. Public health, safety and security 6. Nuclear safety and security (EURATOM programme) 3.1. Environment 3.1.1.Natural resources management 3.1.1.d.Implementation of the EU 2020 Biodiversity Strategy including mapping and assessment of ecosystem services in the EU. Monitoring and modelling biodiversity in the EU and globally.

DG JRC/IES Biodiversity Hub • A Biodiversity Hub has been created in the JRC-IES in spring 2013 to cover the main issues related to Biodiversity and Ecosystems services, serving as a one-stop-shop or point of contact, internally and externally, namely to its stakeholder DGs. • The Biodiversity Hub is a cross-cutting activity at the JRC-IES. • This support is namely provided to DG ENV, under a recently signed MoU (32799-2012). • Additional information is provided in the Annex – last 6 slides
