  9. Sports teams have great trainers who coach their team to play well in attack, mid field and defence. Players play well as individuals, as part of the team and they cover for each other when needed. This is not an introduction to the England World Cup team…

However... • The Academies could be utilised further • Additional use of Saint-Gobain Technical Academies by brands not based at each location • We are not geographically mobile • Except: British Gypsum use training rigs and Greenworks are adding mobile units to their facility • Q - Will we attract customers to the Saint-Gobain Technical Academies when the Industry is busier? • Could we understand our customers better • Course requirements • Length of course • Geography

  14. Plus... Recent research by a Saint-Gobain project group, indicated that the best training is undertaken when the activity is central to brand strategy e.g. Marshalls and Worcester Bosch How do we ensure that this is the case at Saint-Gobain?

  15. Development of the Training and Education strategy • Training workshop took place in early 2014 with Technical representatives from all areas of Manufacturing and Distribution • Output from workshop recorded and used as the basis of the Saint-Gobain vision for Training and Education

  16. Long Term Vision “Lead the Industry Standard for Construction Training and Education” • Leading the Industry standard for cross brand training and education offer, relating to all Saint-Gobain businesses, their customers and the needs of the market (projects, technology, legislation)

Basic Requirements CREDIBILITY • 3rd party endorsement developed and delivered • Each course endorsed – CITB, City and Guilds, NHBC, SWIGA etc. Access to external funding e.g. PAS 2030, previously only available to colleges INTERNAL EXPERTISE FUNDING PERFORMANCEMONITORED • Training expertise – provided and / or in partnership • An appropriate level of Saint-Gobain education across the brands EXTERNAL EXPERTISE FORMAT • Interactive, On line, mobile phones • Mobile training facilities • Length of course • Saint-Gobain endorsed and consistent training and education partners • e.g. CITB, Colleges and Universities • Responsive to customer requirements • Projects, technology, legislation etc. (research led)

  22. Filling the skills gap – investment in the future • Saint-Gobain “skills for life” programme targeted at the young and unemployed • Joint sponsorship with contractors, house builders to provide apprenticeship or 6 month placement following skills training

Skills and Loyalty • “You use the tools you trained with” • Arguably true loyalty begins at college • Breadth of Saint-Gobain brand to be introduced during introductory college course • Saint-Gobain brands continue to deliver skills training • Other Saint-Gobain brands have potential to benefit from British Gypsum college relationships

  24. Investment in Resource Support • Development and introduction of certified accreditation support • Dedicated Saint-Gobain support team • Owner of Saint-Gobain strategy • Marketing and online support • Working alongside Saint-Gobain brand teams

Future Vision • Skilled workers supported by a business endorsed Saint-Gobain training certificate • Skilled site managers who understand how to deliver Buildings that perform to the required standards • Workers who can install and sell our products • Construction workers wanting to employ Saint-Gobain trainees to support required performance levels • Greater use of the products they trained with.
