  2. Background information • In June, Robert E. Lee decides to take the war north. • The Confederacy’s northern invasion hoped to reduce the pressure at Vicksburg.

  3. Day 1 • Began on July 1, 1883 • Reinforcements arrived for the Confederacy • Simply a prelude to the even bloodier forthcoming days

  4. Day 2 • The forces fully arrived and the battle lines were drawn up. • Forces gathered at Cemetery Hill

  5. Day 3 • Final day of battle • Crucial Pickett’s charge • North emerges victorious

  6. Casualties • The Union had 23,055 casualties • The Confederacy had 23,231 casualties
