  2. Activity 1 • Write a newspaper article about the encounter at the inn between Billy Bones and Black Dog.

  3. Activity 2 • Make a list of symbols mentioned throughout the book. • Draw pictures of these symbols on a piece of a paper (white copy paper).

  4. Activity 3 • What does it mean to be black-spotted? • Should someone you know black spot you? • Why or why not?

  5. Activity 4 • Make a pirate flag that would represent you. • Use some pirate symbols. • Use other symbols that would represent you.

  6. Activity 5 • Scenario: class stranded on a deserted island – plane crash, no teacher/s, one emergency radio for supply drop. • Discuss in your group who would be the leader, why that leader, and six things the class would need to survive.

  7. Activity 6 • The Sea Chest • List what you would pack for a six-month journey. • List reasons of necessity for each item.

  8. Activity 7 • Begin making a map of Treasure Island (your view of what it would be like). • Get a paper bag from Ms. Bradley to make your map on. • Make it as rustic as possible. • Be sure and add details of the island. • Include a key.

  9. Activity 8 • Write a job advertisement for a newspaper. • You are advertising for crew members for The Hispaniola. • What criteria is important to be a crew member?

  10. Activity 9 • Write a letter from Dr. Livesey listing fears and concerns. • Request help if not in Jamaica, in three months time.

  11. Activity 10 • Create an island. • Make a brochure for tourists for your island. • Don’t forget to give it a name. • Describe activities, places to stay, etc.

  12. Activity 11 • Imagine that this happened today. • You need an anchorman and at least one reporter on the scene. • It needs to last at least 2 minutes.

  13. Activity 12 • Write a letter from Long John Silver to his wife. • She has secretly moved to Jamaica from Bristol (England). • The letter is to be delivered upon his death.

  14. Activity 13 • There is a mutany! • You are George and you are addressing the crew about taking over as captain. • Tell the crew why you should take over as captain against Silver.

  15. Activity 14 • Write an obituary for Captain Flint – the dreaded pirate with the mountain of treasure.

  16. Activity 15 • Prepare a This Is Your Life program. • Include key characters events of escapades for Jim Hawkins.
