  4. Healthy Shasta Partnership • Started Spring 2005 • Mercy Community Benefits Plan identified obesity as #1 priority • Shasta County Public Health proposed the Healthy Shasta model • Collaborative partnership formed to address childhood obesity • YMCA funding proposal submitted

  5. What is Healthy Shasta? • Creating a community that supports healthy eating and physical activity • A “movement” of organizations - not a “program” • Founded on collaboration not duplication or competition • Higher Spectrum of Prevention Strategies

  6. Recruited Original Partnersto form a Healthy Shasta Steering Committee

  7. What does it mean to be a Healthy Shasta Partner? • Contribute financially, allocate resources or a significant in-kind contribution • Commit to “Walking the Talk”- organizational changes and policies • Attend Healthy Shasta Partner Leadership Team meetings and support outcomes through committee and collaborative work • Act as Healthy Shasta ambassadors in the community- keep health in mind when making decisions in everyday work and leadership roles

New Strategic Focus Areas • Fruits and vegetables • Goal: Increase fruit and vegetable consumption in children and adults. • Sugary Beverages • Goal: Decrease consumption of sugary beverage by children and adults. • Walking/Biking • Goal: Increase walking and biking by children and adults. • Fitness and Play • Goal: Increase fitness and play in children and adults.
