Today you’ll work on… • Compiling your information into scrapbook form. • Your scrapbook should be in the following order… • Cover page with title and group member names • Each group member’s Great Depression page (# varies depending on # of people in your group) • Great Depression summary • Each group member’s current recession page (# varies depending on the # of people in your group) • Current recession summary

7. Due Dates • Your scrapbook should be completed by the beginning of class on Friday, February 8th! • This is your last in class time to work on your project!

8. New Deal Legislation Review • We will be deconstructing New Deal legislation you studied in your scrapbook groups. • Read your piece describing a government act/agency created to provide assistance during the Great Depression. • On the right side of your notebook, write a summary of the program in your own words!

9. Human Slideshow • In your groups, create a Human Slideshow depicting the information in your reading. • One person will be the narrator, the rest will be actors. • You will be presenting to the class tomorrow.

New Deal Programs • Glass-Steagall Act = FDIC Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation-insurance, reassure money was safe • Federal Securities Act = Stocks-Corporations provide complete information on all stocks, liable for misrepresentation, • SEC Securities and Exchange Commission to regulate stock market – no inside information • AAA Agricultural Adjustment Act = Raise crop prices by lowering production, pay farmers to leave certain amount of land unseeded • Tennessee Authority TVA = Poverty level in Tennessee Valley high, created jobs, constructed dams, flood control, and hydroelectric power • CCC Civilian Conservation Corps = Men to work building roads, developing parks, planting trees, help flood control $30 a month, $25 automatically sent home to family. • PWA Public Work Administration/ National Industrial Recovery Act NIRA / Civil Works Administration CWA = $ to states to create schools and community buildings, roads • NRA National Recovery Administration = promote industrial growth with codes of fair practice, set prices of products for fair competition, standards work hours, ban on child labor, right to recognize union/ bargain collecting • SSA= provided a pension for retired workers and their spouses and aided people with disabilities, poor mothers with dependent children, and the needy elderly. • HOLC Home Owners Loan Corporation = government loans to homeowners who faced foreclosure • FHA Federal Housing Administration = Give loans and mortgages today • FERA Federal Emergency Relief Administration = Provide direct relief to needy, food and clothing, support work relief programs ($3 FERA gives $1)
