  3. Overview • Windows desktops with LINUX or Windows servers. • Where LINUX desktop needed prefer 2nd PC. • Numbers of laptops rising. In general not replacing desktop. Pool of laptops for loan.

  4. Departmental Unix Systems. • We did have: • Two LINUX servers (RedHat 6.1, 6.2) and user disk served by HP-UX server linked by FDDI. • We now have: • No FDDI. • Three Linux servers all running RH 7.3, one of which has a RAID user disk. • As before, backups to the datastore. • LINUX/Apache web server with content on AFS.

  5. GRID systems • Compusys rack, will form basis of our contribution to Southern Tier 2. • Originally: 7 dual 1.4GHz Pentiums, plus 0.8TB disk with a server node. • Compute nodes in the grid (GridPP & EDG). RH6.2. • Recently added 12 dual 2.4GHz Xeon nodes. (Will bring in with RH7.3)

  6. Windows • Desktops still NT4, produced using cloning methods. Looking at XP. • Laptops Windows2000. • Changes to Windows Servers: In general move to Windows 2000 servers (still in NT4 domain). • New HP/Compaq Proliant ML350 server with 450GB Raid (4*150GB disks) as new filestore, will turn off Alpha/NT4 file server. • New backup device, ADIC Scalar24 with SDLT320 drive. Use with BackupExec.

  7. Windows Servers continued • Xerox ‘Docushare’ server updated. New version of software running on upgraded hardware (replaced motherboard, CPU, memory). • HP/Compaq Proliant ML350 dual cpu, repacement Citrix server.

  8. Other things…… • Temperature sensor and automatic trip of power added to computer room. • MasterClass – provision of 37PCs for three days.) • Flat screen monitors. Policy to only buy when we need more monitors or specific reason.
