  4. AVID Binder Supply List Students must have their CMS AVID agenda at ALL times. If it is lost or severely damaged it will cost $5 to replace.

  9. The 11 Essentials of AVID • AVID student selection: teacher recommendation, application, interview • Voluntary participation • AVID elective class offered during the school day • Rigorous course of study • Strong, relevant writing and reading curriculum

  12. What about Grades? • Your child should receive an A or B! • AVID student contracts require minimum C or higher. Students who fail to meet this standard, may be dropped from program. • Students will be graded on Tutorials, Class Assignments and 3 P’s (Polite, Prepared, Performing) AVID STUDENTS ARE CENTENNIAL LEADERS!

  13. AVID Students meet the challenge! • Develop as readers and writers • Develop deep content knowledge • Know content specific strategies for reading, writing, thinking, and talking • Develop habits, skills, and behaviors to use knowledge and skills

  14. Why does AVID work? • Places AVID students in rigorous curriculum and gives them the support to achieve • Provides a team of students for positive peer identification • Redefines the teacher’s role as that of student advocate

  16. Electronics Policy TURNED OFF & STORED in students’ backpacks from 8:23am to 3:30pm • First Offense: • STUDENT will retrieve phone from Ms. Corner (Focus Room) at the end of the school day. Ms. corner will NOT find the student to give the phone back! • Second Offense: • Parent will need to come to CMS to pick up phone from Ms. Corner. • Third Offense: • Parent will come in for a meeting with the grade level administrator and then get phone back. *CMS/Kyrene is not liable for lost or damaged personal property.   18. Students are NOT allowed on campus earlier than 8:00 am! The Island! Drop Off & Pick Up @ Colina Entrance Bike or Skateboard Bring a lock and use gated compounds OFFICE PARKING LOT is for SPECIAL NEEDS only! Pick Up and Drop Off BUSES ONLY!

  20. During the school day, students may only wear hats during PE. At all others times, it must be kept inside backpack. When in doubt, save your wear for the weekend! Dress Code - Appropriate Clothing
