  1. Q: can the largest environmental alliance in Australian history become a catalyst for change?

  2. The Agreed Problem: “There is not enough visible public support in Australia for nature conservation to ensure that our natural places and wildlife are protected.”

  3. The agreed vision A prosperous and healthy Australia where nature is valued and protected by our political and economic systems, championed by a powerful and effective constituency.

  4. 3 core elements • Collective Impact: collaboration on steroids • Movement Building: a powerful constituency for nature • Co-design: solutions designed, debated and delivered by the community

  5. Collective Impact • A common agenda • Shared measurement • Mutually reinforcing activities • Continuous communication • Backbone support

  6. Movement Building • Directly addresses the agreed problem • A powerful constituency for nature is our heritage • Mobilisation around issues vs Movement around values • Requires reactive and proactive approaches

  7. Co-Design Vision: A prosperous and healthy Australia where nature is valued and protected by our political and economic systems, championed by a powerful and effective constituency. This requires “ownership” of the solutions by the constituency. This is different to what most of us do at the moment.

  8. PYL’s 3 Programs • The Defensive Campaign: our legacy to protect the laws that protect nature • Movement Building: building a constituency for nature as a collective • Vision 2025: what does Australia look like a decade from now if we actually looked after nature adequately?

  9. A positive plan Launch our vision Demonstrate our power! State of Nature Reset the conversation Listen What does nature mean to you? CoDesign Create our positive Vision Movement Building Organising Leadership Collaborating Measuring Learning

  10. What next? • PYL is a backbone organisation supporting collaboration • We are committed to continuous communication • PYL is committed to listening, discussing and learning • Our goal is to work with our members to improve the effectiveness of all, to make us powerful
