  1. University Accommodation For university applicants

  2. First things first… Choosing the right course and right university for you is more important than the accommodation ‘I had my own room in a cosy flat with my own en-suite bathroom, it was brilliant…..it’s just a shame my course wasn’t what I was expecting, I was a terrible cook and I suffered from homesickness’

  3. Every institution is different You need to look at the options available at your chosen institution You need to think about what would suit you best

  4. Some of the usual options • catered • non-catered • flat • house • halls • en-suite • shared toilet/shower rooms • On campus • Off campus • University run student villages • Family options • Single rooms • Private accommodation

  5. Do your research • Have a look at the institution website • Attend an Open day to have a look around the campus and view the accommodation • Talk to previous students about where they lived • Really have a think about what would suit you • Ring the accommodation office at the university to speak to someone about it

  6. Things to think about • What’s my budget? • How much is the deposit? • Are bills included? • Do I need contents insurance? • Is there any security on site? • Do I need a TV Licence? • How far is the accommodation from the campus? • What happens during the holidays? • What happens if I leave the university?

  7. Applying for university accommodation • As your offers start to come through you will have a better idea of where you might end up studying • You can usually apply for accommodation at institutions where you hold an unconditional or conditional offer • If you hold a conditional offer you can usually still apply for accommodation even though you will not know your results until August • Most institutions guarantee first year undergraduate accommodation • Most applications now made online

  8. Websites and Further Information • Individual institution websites • www.uni4me.com • www.manchesterstudenthomes.com • www.thestudentroom.co.uk • Ring the accommodation office
