  2. Student Accommodation London The opportunity to study overseas is an exciting moment in every student’s life. It is crucial to have a peaceful and hassle-free stay to keep the focus firmly on one’s pursuit of academic excellence. Finding a home away from home is vital for your emotional and physical well-being. Keep the following factors in mind to pick the perfect place to stay.

  3. Timeline: Finding the best place to stay, including the right kind of room, requires time and research. It is advisable to arrive in your city of study two weeks prior to orientation to give yourself ample time to find and book the best place to stay that meets all your requirements. While applying for on-campus accommodation should be a priority for obvious reasons, this does not guarantee 100% placement.

  4. Safety and Security: It is understandably daunting to finalise your living quarters abroad and sign on the dotted line without verifying the property in person, especially given the alarming crime rates in popular cities around the world. That being said, it is rarely feasible for international students to visit a property before they move in, financially or otherwise. If you have friends or family in your city of stay, it is always recommended that you arrange a viewing of the property for them on your behalf.

  5. Payment Options: The method and frequency of paying rent depends upon the policies of the specific property owner as well as the administrative laws operating in your city of study. In the UK, for instance, students must have a local guarantor (a working professional and citizen), to be able to pay their rent in instalments. Some property owners may insist on a guarantor even if the rent is to be paid in one go. By and large, most prefer three to four annual instalments. If you’re a scholarship student, you will be allowed to pay your rent in monthly instalments without a guarantor having to co-sign the rental agreement. Payments are usually made via wire transfer or credit and debit cards. Note that modern student accommodation are by and large cashless buildings.

  7. Finding the Right Company: Living abroad opens up several opportunities to meet and learn from people of varying cultural backgrounds and ethnicities. Learning about the social histories of those who have been raised on different values often help to shape a more holistic and compassionate worldview. If you’d like to reside alongside fellow international students from different countries, property owners are usually more than happy to take that into account while assigning rooms. If you prefer to live in same-sex accommodation or with people who share your religious beliefs or food habits, remember to communicate that in clear terms before booking your living quarters to avoid complications afterwards.
