  4. Overview - history, location, population • In 1990, the Chisholm Institute of Technology merged with Monash University and became the Caulfield campus

  6. Overview – history, location, population • Strong postgraduate (GPG) and international student presence: In 2005 - GPG – Monash – 22.2%, Caulfield - 40.3% Int’l – Monash – 29.4%, Caulfield – 35.5%

Selection of the programs offered Caulfield offers a range of single, double, GPG and HDR degree programs, such as: • Bachelor of Arts • Bachelor of Visual Arts • Bachelor of Business (Banking and Finance) • Master of Business Administration (MBA) • Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Business (Management) • Master of Information Management and Systems • Bachelor of Social Work • Doctor of Philosophy

Student demographics • 2005 – 12,861 students • Five faculties currently located on campus (with student numbers): - Arts – 1,251 (9.7%) - Art & Design – 1,239 (9.6%) - Business & Economics – 7,444 (57.8%) - Information Technology – 1,933 (15%) - Medicine, Nursing & Health Sciences (Psychology, Social Work) – 789 (6.1%) - Other (Engineering, Science – 205 (1.5%)

  9. Major cohorts • Undergraduate – 7,209 (56.1%) • Postgraduate – 5,181 (40.3%) • Higher Degree by Research – 471 (3.7%) • Full-time – 6,774 (52.7%) • Part-time – 4,895 (38.1%) • External – 1,192 (9.3%) • Average age 25.5 (UG-22yrs, GPG – 29 yrs, HDR - 39yrs)

  10. 2003 MEQ results overview • 2003 Major Issues for Students - lack of useful and timely feedback from academic staff - need for better explanations of work by teaching staff - need for greater sense of community - lack of understanding by academic staff of study & learning difficulties - lack of consideration of individual learning needs - need for better careers advice - mixed satisfaction with support services (e.g. health, housing, financial aid)

  11. 2005 MEQ – any improvements • Statistically, improvements were demonstrated across all areas of concern • A recent focus group showed that students still want: - a greater sense of community between faculties and local and international students - better sporting and classroom facilities - raised awareness of services available on campus - more online lectures - greater consistency of assessment within units - more computer labs for undergrads - better communication between Monash and students about campus changes - improved English standards of teaching staff

Campus Services & Facilities The Service Centre is a “one stop shop” where students can: • receive general course administration information (admissions, enrolments, fees, examinations, graduations, etc). • access and submit a range of student forms relating to faculty processes. • obtain academic transcripts and student letters, apply to graduate, have MET and STA cards certified, etc.

  13. Campus Services & Facilities MONSU Caulfield is the student representative body that represents the interests of all students on the campus.

  14. OSS Lounge and Student Lounge (Building S) Overseas Student Services (OSS) is an elected student body of international volunteers who represent and service the large number of international students on Caulfield campus.

Campus Services & Facilities • The Monash Postgraduate Association (MPA) provides services to, and represents the interests of, all postgraduate students enrolled at Monash University. • The International Student Support Unit (ISSU) provides information and advice to assist international students. • The Caulfield Library is a hub of student learning and research on campus attracting more than a million visitors each year .

  19. Future Plans Caulfield Development Stage 2: • Caulfield Plaza site – west of the campus • Academic and office buildings • Student Accommodation – 450 beds • New, active retail and public open spaces • Upgrade campus green • Upgrade to pedestrian connections between railway station and campus
