  • The low developed on 27th January over the Atlantic ocean as a cut-off low.

During the next days the system acquired some tropical/subtropical characteristics: hybrid storm

SST conditions

  • Although the low evolved over low SST (21-22ºC), far away from typical tropical values, these were 1.2ºC warmer than usual for this time of the year.

It developed a shallow warm core during the life cycle.

Since 3rd February the low evolved between Canary Islands and the Iberian Peninsula. GFE forecast also indicated some hybrid features during this period.

When moving to the Gulf of Cadiz the system retained some hybrid characteristics.
