  1. Aaron Copland By Casey Johnson

  2. Biographical information • Aaron Copland Was born November 14, 1900 in Brooklyn. • He died December 2, 1990 in Sleepy Hollow. • His father was Harris Morris Copland, and his mother Sarah Mittenthal Copland. • He also had a brother and sister.

  3. Music • Nadia Boulanger taught Copland composition in France at the Fontainebleau Academy. • Copland wanted to create American music for American's, not for the aristocracy. • Some of his most famous works include Fanfare for the Common Man, and Rodeo

  4. Fanfare for the Common Man • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cr6CnG5dmvM • The song starts wit a fanfare performed by trumpets. • Followed by some timpani strikes that separate a repetition of the fanfare. • Later more orchestral accompaniment joins the trumpets and timpani.

  5. Hoedown • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JIuJVMNNZAM • Made famous by advertising campaign for beef. • Starts with a call and response introduction played by the violin and brass sections. • I enjoy how Copland used different percussion instruments (timpani, woodblocks, xylophone, and cymbals) throughout the composition.
