  2. About HACU • Established in 1986 • Current President – Antonio Flores • Represents more than 400 colleges committed to Hispanic higher education success. • Makes up 2/3 of al Hispanic college students. • Only educational association that represents HSI (Hispanic-Serving Institutions)

  3. HACU Mission • To champion Hispanic success in higher education by: • Promoting the development of member colleges and universities • Improving access to and the quality of post-secondary educational opportunities for Hispanic students • Meeting the needs of business, industry and government through the development and sharing of resources, information and expertise

  4. Flores Interview • “Compared to 20 years ago, more Latinos today finish high school and go to college.”(Menard) • “As a result of our work with Congress, we have won $1 billion in set-asides for Latinos in higher education. “(Menard)

  5. Achievements • 1992- HACU led the effort to convince Congress to formally recognize campuses with high Hispanic enrollment as federally designated HSIs. • 1995- HSIs were granted $12 million from federal resources.

  6. Achievements Cont. • 2011-  $104.3 million were appropriated for the HSI undergraduate program • 2012- $175 million are recommended by HACU for the fiscal year.
