  2. What is Visible Thinking? • Research based approach to INTEGRATING the development of students’ thinking with content across the subject area. • Goals: • Grow as dynamic critical thinkers • Deepen understanding of academic content

  3. Thinking! • By the way, thinking is kind of complicated. We use the word “dispositions” to describe the different types of thinking we push to develop.

  4. CSI • CSI is just one of many activities that cultivate thinking in the classroom. • Observing and Describing • Finding Complexity • Reasoning • Questioning and Investigating

  5. Color, Symbol, Image Color = represents tone or main idea Symbol = represents a main idea or theme Image = shows what stood out to the learner

  6. When do I use it? • Reading • Listening • Observing • Reflecting

  7. Lord of the Flies • 8th grade is reading a challenging novel this quarter! We use CSIs • to demonstrate our comprehension • identify areas of confusion • compare our reading experiences • incite class discussion • as an alternative to loose-leaf overload!

  8. Video • 8th grade works in small groups to discuss how to go about creating a comprehensive CSI.
