  1. Tuesday 12-3-13 • Check Continental Drift & Pangaea • (Leave it out and open to it.) • Brainpop: Earth’s Structure • Lithospheric Plates

  2. Goals for Brainpop • Explain the physical properties of the structural layers and how those physical properties affect other things.

  3. Shoulder Partner Questions • What are the 2 ways that scientists classify the layers of the Earth by? • Composition (what they are made up of.) • Structure (Solid, soft, rigid, liquid)

  4. Shoulder Partner Questions • Which compositional layer is made up of iron and nickel? • Which structural layer is soft and flows very slowly so that the layer above it can move on it? Core Asthenosphere

  5. What is the Theory of Continental Drift and list 4 pieces of evidence that support it. • Continents move around in relationship to each other. • Evidence • Fossil Records • Sea floor is getting bigger at mid-atlantic ridge • Magnetic minerals alternate direction in sea floor • Continents fit together like puzzle

  6. Goals for Lithospheric Plate Activity • Differentiate between oceanic and continental sections of the Earth’s major plates.

  7. Lithospheric Plates • Label the 13 plates of the Lithosphere • Color entire plate the same color. • Color continental crust darker than oceanic crust. • Each plate should be a different color • Answer Lithospheric Plates Questions

  8. Philippine Sea Plate Indian-Australian Plate Pacific Plate North American Plate Caribbean Plate Cocos Plate Nazca Plate Scotia Plate Antarctic Plate Eurasian Plate Arabian Plate African Plate South American Plate 4 10 5 1 11 2 6 12 3 7 13 2 2 8 9
