  15. Who are we? • Started off as a group of retired senior railway engineers and other professionals • Over 50 members, including 10 life members Famous Trains model railway

  16. What have we done so far? • First approached Derby City Council December 2006 • Constituted 1st August 2008 • Registered charity No. 1126173 from 6th October 2008 Famous Trains model railway

  17. What have we done so far? Accepted gift of a 40-feet-long model railway from Derek Chandley of Wilson near Melbourne in 2010. Model stored for three years. Famous Trains model railway

  18. What have we done so far? • Planning Permission for building upgrade obtained February 2009 • Famous Trains web site set up September 2009 – www.famoustrains.org.uk • Now on Facebook Famous Trains model railway

  19. What have we done so far? • Set up long-term strategy to include garden railway and model steam track • Council accepted strategy in principle late 2011 • Lease term negotiated for 15 years in 2011 Famous Trains model railway

  20. The building • Replaced asbestos cement roof • Fully insulated walls, roof and floor • New electrics and good lighting • New emergency door • Refurbished and repainted Famous Trains model railway

  32. The Chinley layout • 00-scale, 60ft x 16ft, plus future extensions • Based on Chinley station in 1950s-1960s. • Four continuous main line tracks… • ...each with four train holding loops at back. • And much, much more! Famous Trains model railway
