  1. 6 essential spices that you must try to make delicious food Starting from the blandest of food, like Dal, to spiciest cuisines, like Curry, when in India, spices are a must. It is unlikely for one to use the 52 different kinds of spices that India produces, and for you, we’ve picked the 6 which you can’t miss out on. Out of the thousand kinds of spices, not literally though, we can still pick out the most important ones, prioritize and utilize. Namely, Turmeric (Haldi), Chilli (mirch), Coriander (dhaniya), Cumin (jeera), Pepper (kali- Mirch), Garam Masala. An absolute must for every household in India is the above-mentioned spices, which can make any food, yummy and spicy. In India everyone grows up around the smell of these freshly roasted spices every day, so much that now these spices become the yin to the yang of every dish that is prepared in Indian households, ranging from the extravagant ones to the simpler ones. There’s a saying, feel of the food is proportionate to the number of senses involved, and the idea of adding spices to food runs along the same lines, where turmeric adds colour to the food to make it more appealing, garam masala enhances the aroma, and the rest the taste of it. It’s fascinating how a pinch of these spices adds so much and can make anything deliciously amazing. India is the largest producer, i.e. producer of approximately 3 million tonnes of spices per annum, is also a prime exporter of whole spices worldwide. There are many spices suppliers in India who cater to the global demand for Indian spices. India produces both processed and whole spices all over the world and is a major supplier of whole spices to Europe and U.S.A. Kerala and Andhra Pradesh are the most prominent whole spices exporters in India. The Indian spices that make food taste Indian are : 1. Turmeric – the yellow colour of the Indian dishes gives it credits to this beautiful spice. The yellow colour makes the food feel warm and close to heart. It doesn’t just really change the taste but the spice has multiple health benefits. 2. Chilli – Chilli is the main ingredient that adds the spice and makes the food hot and spicy. The chilli gives the red colour to the Indian curries. 3. Coriander – the coriander gives a little sour and lemony taste to the curry, it also adds some depth to the food. 4. Cumin – Cumin is mostly used for the aroma and also for the taste it gives. It has a very strong flavour. Also, Cumin is good for digestion.

Garam masala – Garam Masala is mainly used to add flavour. It is a blend of multiple spices which are powdered into one Garam masala. Garam masala mainly makes the food more flavourful. While talking of spices, we cannot miss out the fact, how it promotes the Indian culture and is also an asset for the state being a large contributor to the economy.
