  22. CONCLUSIONS 1. The data show that the Society has enjoyed remarkable success during its first half century. 2. The Society has demonstrated excellent ability to compete alongside larger and older regional societies when it comes to: (a) hosting joint meetings with the national and other regional societies (b) recognizing the excellence of student entomologists (c) encouraging amateurs, young and old, to foster their interest in ‘bugs’ (d) devising innovative means of accruing a healthy bank balance! 3. The Society has set itself high standards during the first 50 years. I am confident that these standards will at least be matched as we move towards our centenary!

  23. ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS Dennis Dyck - for ‘powerfully pointing’ me in the right direction Owen Olfert and Murray Braun - for successfully locating the minute books etc.
