  1. “The best executive is the one who has sense enough to pick good men to do what he wants done, and self-restraint to keep from meddling with them while they do it.” ― Theodore Roosevelt So, finally you have decided to stop being a technical guy and enter into management and for that you have enrolled yourself in a PG Diploma Course in Business Management. While that is a great step forward in your career, it is always better what to expect in this amazing yet difficult journey from a technical expert to a Manager. Today I have come up with the list of skills that you would be learning in your course and how to put those skills to use:

  2. •Delegation - The foremost skill you would be need in your new role as a manager is the skill of delegation. So far you have been concerned with the responsibilities that had been assigned to you. But now, as a manager you need to see a bigger picture and has to distribute the responsibility which has been provided to you amongst your subordinates. The skill of delegation would teach you to make a 360 degree analysis of your team which would in turn help you to decide the best fits for particular tasks. •Briefing - Next in line is briefing. As a manager, you need not do anything yourself but make your team acquainted with what you need them to do. Now, a caveat over here is that it is much more difficult than it seems. Till the time you are perfectly sure about what needs to be done, you can not guide your subordinates towards doing that task and therefore, the window for hit and trial is really a narrow one for you.

  3. •Motivation - As a manager, your success would now be measured in terms of the success of those who are working under you. How will you make sure that they are working to the best of their capabilities. Yes, by constantly motivating them. Self-confidence would be a must in this case for starters. You need to have a positive energy around you all the time so that you can fill others with the same passion you had while you used to work as a technical guy. •Communication - This I guess is one of the foremost skill you would be needing. I mean, you can’t keep doing the work yourself. As a manager, you now are an important bridge between the client and your team. If you do not have sound communication skills, you won’t be able to understand what is need at the client end and would fail miserably in explaining your team what you need them to do as well. Strong personality and good communication skills are the key to become a good manager.
