  7. Maximize Reach • 23 TFWC (Tobacco Free Wyoming Communities) Program Managers help develop community relations and promote the WQTP • Newspaper ads • Radio ads • Billboards • Pharmacy

  8. Critical • #1 referrals to our program has been Physician referral with #2 being Friends and Family • Very important to have Physicians behind your program. We even push the Medicaid coding CPT codes for tobacco cessation In Wyoming Physicians can use CPT Code 99407 which pays $23, and is smoking and tobacco cessation counseling visit greater than 10 minutes. And CPT Code 99406 which pays $12, and is smoking and tobacco cessation counseling visit intermediate, greater than 3 minutes up to 10 minutes. • Looking into developing a system that Physicians can check on their patients use of our program for accountability • Being able to offer Chantix drove our numbers up also. Even with the warning and a black box labeling, this medication is very successful in helping all forms of tobacco users quit. Currently there is some resistance in Physicians prescribing the use of Chantix, but it is still our #1 requested medication

  9. Evaluation • State of Wyoming Department of Health contracts with an outside organization called for evaluation and data collection • Healthways does a monthly and yearly report • Weekly/daily contact with Healthways via phone or email

  10. Sustainability • Through an RFP we changed from American Cancer Society to Healthways for management of our WQTP • Removed many barrier of enrollment (on line enrollment)/geographically a good step • NRT’s mailed – (geographically a good step because Pharmacy may not be close) • Continue to recruit Pharmacy participation • Continue to develop a broader range of Physician/healthcare endorsement

  11. Increase Reach • Know your state…what your people want…what barriers to remove and try to offer the most (counseling/medications) you can for your budget • Be creative…. • Use natural resources… (tumbleweeds?)

  12. Bio • Kathi Wilson started with the Wyoming Department of Health in the Mental Health & Substance Abuse Services Division as the Tobacco Cessation Coordinator in 2007 • Kathi received her Tobacco Treatment Specialist certification in 2007 • In Kathi’s spare time she rides and shows horses • kathi.wilson@health.wyo.gov • #(307)777-3358 Thank you
