  7. How many subjects/units/courses do you take? • 12 Courses (144 credit points) • 2 Compulsory Courses (24 credit points) • 10 Electives (120 credit points) School of BITL

  10. Electives If you are commencing your Masters at RMIT with no previous successful postgraduate courses completed then you will need to complete 10 more courses. School of BITL Slide 10

  11. Double Masters If you have completed a previous Masters within the Business College at RMIT, you must complete 2 additional courses There are no other exemptions or substitutions given. Thus you will graduate with: MPA and MCom MK and MCom MBA and MCom MF and MCom MBIT and MCom MLSP and MCom

  12. Majors and Minors • Students can elect to study a Major or Minor sequence in the MCom. • EG. Major in Marketing – (comprises of 6 courses) • EG. Minor in Finance – (comprises of 4 courses)

  13. Global Study Tours • A Global Experience • Executive Intensive Master classes to: • USA – Washington DC and NYC • Canada – Toronto • China – Hong Kong, Shanghai and Beijing • Vietnam – Saigon and Cambodia School of BITL

  16. Student Exchange • In collaboration with EAU the MCom team encourages its students to engage in student exchange around the world. • Students are able to study a semester or a whole year abroad in consultation with the Program Directors and Administrative Staff. School of BITL

  17. Funding for the Global Passport • EAU has over 20 $1,000.00 scholarships for study tours • Other scholarships ranging from $500.00 to $5,000.00 • Last year 15 MCom students won scholarships for the study tours • Open to International and Local students • RMIT travel grants

  18. Exemptions Exemptions are only give to students who have successfully completed postgraduate courses or whole programs. No exemptions are allocated for undergraduate work or for work experience. You will need to make an appointment in order to obtain the exemptions, do not go thinking you have exemptions if you have not followed proper procedures and processed all of the necessary paperwork. You may not be able to graduate if you have not fulfilled all of the academic requirements of the MCom. School of BITL Slide 18

  19. Program Load • Full-time, 4 courses per semester • Part-time, 2 courses per semester • MCom – Full time duration – 18 months • MCom – Part time duration – 3 years • Some part-time students take 2-3 courses in a year Note: ‘course’ = subject School of BITL

  20. MComFees for 2012 • MCom is a full fee program for local and international students • Payable on semester and course basis – invoiced in March and August for local students • Fees are reviewed annually • Local – MCom - $29,520 in 2012 • International – MCom - $37,440 in 2012 School of BITL

Higher Education Loan Program (FEE-HELP) • FEE-HELP scheme applies to MCom • Available to Australian Citizens • Deferred payment of tuition fees – CPI-indexed loan, repaid via income tax • Can borrow all or part of tuition fees (See http://www.goingtouni.gov.au or phone 1800 020 108) • MCom is registered for Commonwealth Support (eg Austudy) School of BITL

Assessment Used in the Programs • Mix of methods used • Balance of assessment leans toward reports and projects, with some tests and exams • Progressive assessment used in all courses – several tasks contribute to final result • Mix of individual and group work • Emphasis on building communication and team work skills School of BITL

MCom contact hours • Each course has 3 contact (class) hours per week • Part-time load is 6 hours per week each semester • Non-contact hours (out-of-class time)~ double contact hours, for reading, researching, preparing assessment requirements, group work etc • All courses will have the usual face to face delivery • lecture + tutorial / lab/ workshop format • Part-time study is usually two late afternoons a week • Full–time study is usually 4 late afternoons per week • Some tutorials will be offered during the day, or weekends School of BITL

  24. Student Comments • Enthusiasm and expertise of lecturer and tutors • Learning practical skills that will assist in career. Interesting lectures and tutorials. • Good mix of theory and practice. Excellent tutor. Great exposure to the vast array of electronic information resources • The lectures are always interesting and stimulating. The tutorial exercises are extremely well structured for achieving the learning goals. • Relates to what I expect to be doing in a library – feels very useful • Really up-to-date with technological impacts on the field. • Variety and breadth of subjects • Staff are friendly and approachable • The tutorials cover interesting topics, and are relevant to the lecture material School of BITL

If you have already registered, you can log in at any time to amend or submit your application/s until the application deadline. Timely applications are preferred, places are still available for semester 1 2012. Applicants are encouraged to lodge applications early. • Supporting documentation • All electronic documents should be in an accessible format e.g. PDF, DOC, RTF text file or JPG image file and be a maximum of 10 MB in size (each). • Supporting documentation may include: • an academic statement of your results for all programs and courses attempted/completed • proof of successful completion of academic qualifications • an assessment of any overseas qualifications • proof of relevant work experience • a supplementary information form • change of name documentation.
