Faculty Dr. Otjen – American Indian Heritage Award, Fall 2013 Dr. Robertson – 2013 Faculty Excellence Award from ASMSUB Students 2013 Golden Merit Award 2013 Outstanding Seniors (2) Outstanding Academic Organization Award Winner of International CAPSIM Competition Spring 2013 AIBL – Winner of Business Plan Competition Recent accomplishments

COB students placed 1st six times, 3rd once, and 4th twice during the past nine years in the International CAPSIM Business Management Simulation competitions. • Since 2004 COB student teams won 1st place twice, 2nd place twice and 3rd place once in the Annual John Ruffato Montana Business Plan competition at the University of Montana against 35 other teams including graduate students. • In the past nine years AIBL teams have placed 1st four times, 2nd twice, and 3rd twice at the national business plan competition. • Student projects have garnered eleven statewide awards, including five gold awards, within the past eight years from the Great Falls Advertising Federation. • Since 2000 eight COB students have participated in Global Village at Lehigh University. Students are selected on the basis of leadership, grades and citizenship. Only 90 students from around the world are admitted annually. enduring achievements

Faculty members in the Department of Business Administration • 19 full-time faculty members in Fall 2013 • Compared to 22 full-time faculty members in 2009 • Enrollment has increased 17% (head count) since 2009 • New faculty members this fall • Dr. Joshua Hill, Economics • Dr. Patricio Mori, Management • Faculty activities • Four faculty members received professional development funding in Fall 2013. • Three faculty members received a CARE grant for their research project in Fall 2013. • Number of peer-reviewed published journal articles in the past 5 years = 49 • Number of articles submitted to peer-reviewed journals in Fall 2013 = 8 • Numerous works in progress • Consulting and other professional activities are ongoing faculty

Fall 2013 COB enrollment increased 10.4% over fall 2012, 17% since Fall 2009. • 27% increase in Accounting, 19% increase in Finance since 2012 • Fall-to-Fall retention rate for Fall 2012 New Freshmen Cohort was 71% in Fall 2013. Target was 68%. • 13 COB undergraduate students have co-authored papers with COB faculty. One student project led to a book, currently under contract to be published. • On average 25 client-based projects are completed every year by COB students. • A recent faculty consulting opportunity led to three research papers in various stages of publication. • In recent years short-term study abroad opportunities led by COB faculty include Japan, China, India and Costa Rica. • MSUB College of Business achieved accreditation by AACSB in 2010. Less than 1% of business schools that offer solely undergraduate programs have achieved this high level of accreditation. Cob highlights

Bachelor of Science in Business Administration • Options: • Accounting (available onsite and online) • General Business (available online) • Finance • Management • Marketing • Minors • Interdisciplinary program with Music Department • Many courses in all options are offered both onsite and online Programs

Marketing - Students design & help produce an actual advertising campaign, typically for public service projects. • Finance - Students invest $50,000 from D.A.Davidson & Co. and get to keep 50% of any profits. • Accounting - Students prepare Income Tax Returns for low income taxpayers and create a customized accounting system using commercial accounting software to meet the needs of a real business. • Management - In the Small Business course students actually create and operate their own small business. At the end of the semester they keep the profits. • Capstone Course - In Business Strategy course students develop a detailed business plan for an actual business or not-for-profit organization. • Internships - Students gain experience by working for a business under the guidance of the MSUB College of Business. Faculty member and Dean participated in Plenary Session in Helena to begin the process of aligning knowledge, skills and abilities of graduates of two-year institutions in Montana with the expectations of four-year business programs in the state. • Faculty member and Dean participated in second meeting with other schools in which general discipline profile was developed, topic areas were identified, and a list of competencies for each of those areas was drafted. • Next step is to develop learning objectives for each competency.
