  1. Collaborative Networked Organizations (CNO) &work environment • Structuring the research area Martin Ollus martin.ollus@vtt.fi tel +358400448714 http://www.vtt.fi/

  2. Challenges for the CNOs • Consist of disperse sets of participants with varying environments • Participants increasingly identify themselves with other communities than formal organizations • Professional virtual communities one emerging identity Main challenge • Efficient participation of different types of partners • Collaboration despite of different background support, culture, business processes, physical presence, etc. • A “functional interoperability” supporting collaboration between people in such CNOs seems to be needed • Support to rely on multi-disciplinary contributions • Cannot concentrate only on technological developments Some non-technological issues • The performance of CNOs (collaboration, individuals, operational approaches and governance structures) and related value systems (fair and transparent, maintaining the intimacy of the partners) • Asset management • Intangible values (service, information, for example engineering etc.) • Mobility and CNOs

  3. Specific Support Action • Structuring the area of the work environment in connection with CNOs • Suggesting future research areas to support the area. • Wide community building The main outcomes of the suggested action • A structuring and an understanding of the participation of different partners in CNOs • Support of mobility and access to knowledge and information • A research road map for the area • Suggestions for implementation of the road map (research plan) • An active community around the area Collaboration with • Ongoing European research projects (e.g. ECOLEAD) • National research programs • Industrial associations to support wide community building • International organizations in the area. Contacts exist to • IFIP WG.5.5 • the IEEE TC on Industrial Agents (Collaborative networks)
