  2. What do our fitness tests assess? • Sit & Reach – Flexibility • Pull Ups – Muscular Strength • Sit-ups – Core abdominal strength • Shuttle Run – Agility • Mile Run – Endurance

  3. Overload Principle • The basis for fitness enhancement • To increase fitness, a person must perform more work than s/he is generally accustomed to doing.

  4. Muscular Strength • The amount of weight that you can lift • Muscle soreness is normal when lifting.

  5. Fitness • As you exercise your body composition improves due to buring fat and increasing muscle mass. • To improve fitness you should exercise within your target heart rate zone. • The number of times your heart beats per minute is your Heart Rate. • Exercise helps prevent diseases such as obesity, diabetes, and heart disease.

  6. Types of Sports • A Team sport is a sport in which you participate as part of a team. • Hockey, football, soccer, volleyball • An individual sport is a sport that is performed by yourself. • Tennis, Golf

  7. Types of training • To increase muscle mass one should perform strength conditioning. • Cross training is … • Progression is the slow increase of muscle over time. • Power is the combination of Strength and Speed.

  8. Rest is Important! • Rest allows for the muscles to recover. • Muscle soreness is normal after working out. • Overcommitting to sports can cause injury because you overuse your muscles.
