  1. SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT SEPTEMBER 2013

  2. REGION VII: School Board Meeting • Monday October 7, 2013 • High School Commons Area • Meal: Chicken Alfredo served with grilled vegetable mix and garlic bread, tossed salad, fruit tray • Dessert choices: • White chocolate swirl brownie served with chocolate covered strawberry • Candied lemon squares • Pumpkin torte • Drinks: Tea, water, coffee, fruit infused water

  3. SECRETARY OF EDUCATION • Requested a meeting with all superintendent’s to discuss concerns and issues • Meeting is scheduled for Monday October 7, 2013 in Santa Fe • Could be the first opportunity to really get concerns out and discussed • I am hoping for an increased level of direction as well as an increased amount planning time before systems/ initiatives are rolled out.

  4. MAINTANENCE UPDATE • ROOFS: We have several leaks throughout the school that we are working to get addressed • First we want to understand any warranty agreements and attempt to get those repairs taken care • If the warranty does not cover the work we then would get some recommendations on how to address the issues • The elementary school library right now is our main focus along with both gyms

  5. MAINTANENCE UPDATE (cont.) • Library Fire Suppression System: working on quote • The system is still in the middle of a legal tug-o-war • My intention is to provide a quote to “fix” the system in hopes that it will move us closer to ending the litigation and getting the solution in place. • Prepare for winter: equipment preparation • Campus walk through: Tuesday September 24 at 9:00am

  6. TRANSPORTATION • Annual bus inspections were completed with all our regular route buses passing • One of the buses that we had planned on using as a spare was red tagged based on the odometer not being in working order, this bus is not currently in use. • Once we get the parts to repair this bus we can have it re-inspected and then use it as a spare.

  7. TECHNOLOGY • Web page • Facebook • PARCC ASSESSMENT • DISTRICT WIDE CALENDAR OF EVENTS:

  8. TERM LIMITS • Contacted Don Williams who is the attorney with the New Mexico School Board’s Association • School board elections are regulated by New Mexico election statues. Based on current legislation a local board is not able to impose term limits at a local level • Explained a possible scenario: Future board members may not agree with term limits and use the state statue to over rule

  9. WORK SESSION • To discuss 5 year facility master plan along with possible funding options • Proposed Date: Monday Sept. 30, 2013 at 6:00pm
