  2. Ancient India • For India we will start with the standards, just as we have with the previous sections. However, this time you will be using your resources to search out only the enduring understanding, essential questions, and vocabulary. • What resources do you have available to you? • What should be the game-plan?

  4. Enduring Understanding: • People of early India contributed many ideas that have continued to influence modern society.

  5. Essential Questions: • How did climate and geography influence the 1st settlement in India? • How did the ideas of Hinduism and Buddhism affect the daily lives of early people in India? • What unique contributions did the warriors, thinkers, and scientists of early India give to the world?

  6. Places, People, & Vocabulary: • Aryans • caste • Hinduism • polytheism • theocracy • pilgrim • Sanskrit • Indus River/ Ganges River • Harrapa/Mohenjo-Daro • Himalaya Mountains • Subcontinent • monsoon

  7. Key Concepts • The importance of the Indus River and other geographic features to the settlement of India • Aryans conquered India and introduced new ideas and technology • The caste system divided people into social groups

  11. What do you want to know? • Think about it, use your book if you’d like, and write down one question at the bottom of your notes. • Turn to the person next to you and share! 

  12. Lets get started! • Look at your game-plan that you made as a class. You can use any resources available to you, but the obvious place to start is by using your Social Studies book. • You until Wednesday (half-day) to finish this, and will be graded on your notes/findings.
