POSTEUROP ON THE ENVIRONMENT “PostEurop understands that, through the very nature of its day-to-day activities, the postal sector has an impact on the environment, mostly in the form of greenhouse gas emissions.  As a vital sector of the European economy, the postal sector is committed to reducing CO2 emissions within the communities it serves, through working together and closely with customers, suppliers and other stakeholders.” Electric Vehicle Fleets

PostEurop Green Actions • Green Post Project • A project to improve energy efficiency and reduce air pollution by substituting the gasoline vehicles with electric and hybrid vehicles • GHG Reduction Programme • A programme to reduce GHG emissions following a voluntary target • EMIP • A joint initiative of key stakeholders in the European mailing industry to ensure the right perception of the green value of mail • Green Fleet Forum • A platform for exchange of knowledge and opportunities with the supply industry Electric Vehicle Fleets

The GHG Reduction Programme • WHAT: tools, best practices, collection of data on postal sector carbon footprint, analysis and reports for participants • AIM: 10% reduction CO2 emissions over 5 years • WHO: 28 postal operators • HOW: voluntary commitement • SCOPE: transportand buildings Electric Vehicle Fleets

The Green Fleet Forum OBJECTIVES A platform to initiate and facilitate mutual sharing of best practices, knowledge exchange for postal operators and opportunity to meet representatives of key stakeholders within the area of postal transportation. WHO Environment and operations experts of postal operatorstogether with representatives from the European Commission, research institutes, suppliers and manufacturers. Follow up of the NEPH Project Electric Vehicle Fleets

Knowledge Sharing on the Environment • Platform for Best Practices, some examples: • Eco-Driving (Groupe La Poste) • Driving Clean (TNT) • Green Roofs (Austrian Post) • Project “Excellent Fleet” (La Poste/De Post) • Perfect route planning (Deutsche Post World Net) • Green Stations (Poste Italiane) • “Making Red Vans Green” a combination of eco-driving, maintenance, fuel management and route planning (Royal Mail) 10 / 20 Electric Vehicle Fleets

The Green Post Project • Description: Postal agencies (supported by local universities) in four Member States tested alternative vehicles (electric and hybrid) for their mail delivery services. • Output: test results, impact environmental assessments, economic analysis, management and maintenance training protocols. • Goal: improve energy efficiency and reduce air pollution within a cost effective investment. • Expected results: share best practices and lessons learned to stimulate the replication of similar initiatives. Green Post is granted funds from European Commission/EACI under the Intelligent Energy Europe program. Electric Vehicle Fleets

Green Post: the vehicles FreeDUCk is a quadricycle (with hybrid or electric engines) with a max vel. of 45 km/h, range of 50 km (300 km hybrid), payload 90 kg with 200 liters volume. postal fleet’s motorbike (Italy) • lower emissions • higher energy efficiency • higher safety for operators • higher payload volume • almost same size (only + 12 cm width) FreeDUCk Electric Vehicle Fleets
