  12. Checklist Before using COMPASS.101 you will need: • a PIN (Personal Identification Number) • a school number • a student number • a list of your researched options Ontario Universities’ Application Centre 2005

Step 1: Your COMPASS Access Codes Your guidance counsellor will give you a confidential letter containing your access codes in late October: • PIN (Personal Id #) • School Number • Student Number Your PIN is confidential! Don’t share it with anyone else! • These numbers allow you to access your COMPASS.101 application. Ontario Universities’ Application Centre 2005

Step 2: Research Your University Options • Read INFO and the COMPASS.101 Companion Booklet. • Check out www.electronicinfo.ca, univ. websites, UIP, tours and visits. • Talk to counsellors, family, teachers and friends. • Write down your program choices and codes and keep them handy.   15. Step 3: Mark Your Calendar October/November 2006: Schools distribute INFO, COMPASS.101, and access codes (late October). January 10, 2007: Latest date to submit completed on-line applications to the OUAC. February 6, 2007: Recommended last day to make changes to your application to be eligible for early admission. May 25, 2007: Latest date by which all secondary school applicants shall expect a response from an Ontario university. Such a response could be: 1) an offer of admission 2) a refusal or 3) a deferral pending the receipt of specific additional information. May 28, 2007: Earliest date by which Ontario universities may require a response to an offer. Ontario Universities’ Application Centre 2005

  16. Paying for your application You have the following three options: VISA / MasterCard:You will need the card number, expiry date and the cardholder’s name. Internet / Telephone Banking: You will receive an account number from the OUAC when you submit your application. 3. Cheque / Money Order:You must send the cheque or money order by mail within two weeks of submitting your application electronically. Ontario Universities’ Application Centre 2005

Before you get started • Checklist: • Explore your college options. • Check out college websites, publications and tours. • Research program admission requirements. • Take a look at the online Program Locator (at ontariocolleges.ca) or the Ontario College Guide. • Have a valid email account. • Think of a unique username and password. • Know your Ontario Education Number (OEN). • Know your correct address and postal code. • Have a credit card number, including expiry date, (VISA, MasterCard or American Express), if you plan to pay online.   21. Important Dates Fall 2006: Applications may be submitted on-line to OCAS as soon as they are available, in late October. OENs from Student Services required. February 1, 2007: Equal consideration date (all applications received at OCAS by this date will be considered equally by the colleges). Earliest admission offer date for high school applicants. Earliest date to confirm an offer. May 1, 2007: Confirmation date for acceptance of an offer of admission. June 15, 2007: Earliest date that the colleges can require payment of tuition fees.   22. Did you know? • The $85 application fee is non-refundable • You can make 5 program choices, with no more than 3 choices at any one college • Submit only 1 application! Application fees paid on “duplicate” applications are non-refundable. • When you apply online OCAS receives your application immediately. • You will have your payment confirmed immediately if you pay by credit card. • You can apply 24/7 from any internet-connected (windows-based or Mac) computer with recent browser versions. Who does what? • OCAS: • Processes applications and transcripts and forwards information to the colleges. • Notifies you and your counsellors if your grades are missing or incomplete. • Advises the college when you have accepted an offer of admission. Who does what? • HIGH SCHOOLS: • Distribute your Ontario Education Number (OEN), the College and Quick Reference Guides. • Provide OCAS with your personal and academic information and updated grade information in Feb. Who does what? • YOU: • Set up your own online account and create your personal username and password. • Keep this information in a safe place, you will need it to log on to your application. • Write down your OCAS application number. • Complete your application • Verify your academic information. • Make changes to your application online. Who does what? • YOU: • Pay the application processing fee (your application will not be sent to the colleges until payment is received at OCAS) • Print a copy of the Application Verification summary • Verify online that OCAS received your application fee and any other documents you sent. • Complete additional requirements for admission, if required, and acknowledge your acceptance of a college offer. Applying out of Province • Electronic applications preferred • OUAC will send marks to McGill, Bishop’s, Concordia, UBC, Simon Fraser, UVictoria & Dalhousie if you include your OUAC Number on your application! • Student Services will send your transcript to other post-secondary institutions if you tell Ms. Huard where you have applied and when to send them!
