Calendar and Pre-registration for Junior Year • January 30 – February 14 • AP Application period • February 21 • IB Social from 3-4 PM in the MPR • English 2 Honors class pre-registration presentation in the MPR • February 22 • English 2 Honors class pre-registration presentation in the MPR • February 29 • IB Parent Night at 7:00 PM in the Theater

Calendar and Pre-registration for Junior Year • March 5 • AP qualification results are posted on WHS website at www.walnuths.net • March 8 • English 2 Honors class pre-registration sheet pick-up • March 13 • CAHSEE ELA testing 7:50 – 10:20 AM PLEASE, DO NOT BE ABSENT OR LATE • March 14 • CAHSEE MATH testing 7:50 – 10:20 AM PLEASE, DO NOT BE ABSENT OR LATE • March 21 • Parent Night in the Gym for all grade levels

  4. Courses for the Junior Year • English 3 • Honors, AP, IB • US History • Honors, AP, IB • Math • Geometry, Algebra 2 /honors, Math Analysis /honors, Calculus or AP • Science • Chemistry or honors, Anatomy, Physics or an AP science • Foreign Language • Level 2, 3 or honors, 4 or honors or AP • Elective • VPA or SRC or Applied Arts

Advanced Placement Courses for the junior year • Advanced Placement • English 3 AP • US History AP • Human Geography AP (US History in summer school) • Chemistry AP (Only 1 science course can be taken.) • Biology AP • Physics AP • Environmental Science AP • Calculus AB/AP • Statistics AP (Only 1 math course can be taken.) • Computer Science AP

Selection Process for Admittance To IB Diploma Program • Students with an accumulative GPA between 3.0 and 3.49 at the 12 week progress report will go through a combined evaluation process. • Teacher evaluation of student’s academics and work ethic. • Students with an accumulative GPA 2.99 or below will not continue in the program.

  7. International Baccalaureate Diploma Program Group 1 Language A1 Group 3 Individuals andSocieties Group 2 Language B Extended Essay Theory of Knowledge Creativity, Action Service Group 4 Experimental Sciences Group 5 Mathematics Group 6 Arts & Electives

  8. IB 4 Year Plan - HL • 3 HL Tests (Taken in Senior Year) • 1 HL Test must be in English • Choose 2 other HL Tests from the other groups (Except the Language B Group – this will be your required SL Foreign Language) • Remember – HL choices should be in your strongest subject areas

IB 4 Year Plan - SL • 3 SL Tests required – 2 Tests taken in the Junior Year – 1 SL Test taken in Senior Year (Language B is your Foreign Language) • Once you have selected your 3 HL subject areas and your Foreign Language, there are 2 groups remaining of the 6. These 2 groups will become SL choices for your IB curriculum.

  10. Math SL Geometry Algebra 2 HP Math Analysis HP Math SL (Calculus AB/AP) Math Studies SL Geometry Algebra 2 or 2HP Math Studies Math Standard Level - SL

  11. Groups 1 & 2 are selected for you. You must select 2 HL’s and 2 SL’s from the remaining groups. You must select 1 from each group. Group 1 – Language A1 English HL - All students must take this HL Group 2 – Language B Foreign Language SL - All students must take this SL Group 3 – Individuals and Societies History HL History SL Group 4 – Experimental Sciences Biology HL (1st year is Biology AP) Biology SL Chemistry SL (AP class) Group 5 – Mathematics Math HL – Equivalent to Calculus BC/AP Math SL – Equivalent to Calculus AB/AP Math Studies SL – Must have completed Alg. 2 or Alg. 2H Group 6 – Arts & Electives Visual Arts HL Visual Arts SL (The only SL that is over 2 years) Theater HL Economics SL Psychology HL Chemistry SL (AP class) Biology SL – If you selected Biology HL, you cannot choose this SL.

  12. Process for Final Selection of IB Diploma Courses • Students need to choose carefully when making final selections regarding HL/SL courses as they may not be changed during summer registration.

  13. Process for Final Selection of IB Diploma Courses • Spring course selection dictates the overall master schedule: • eg. Economics IB SL • If 20 students choose this class it will be offered. • When 10 change their mind there is no class to put them in ,and this course would not have been offered for only 10 students.

  14. Process for Final Selection of IB Diploma Courses • If necessary a 7 Period day will be available that will allow a student to choose 1 co-curricular activity. • Athletics, Pep, Dance, Publications, ASB, Band, Orchestra, Vocal Music, Peer Counseling or Color Guard

  15. Summer School and Lottery • Lottery for Summer Registration appointment • April 30th @ 3 PM in the GYM • Please refer to WHS website for summer school information: www.walnuths.net • There will be a Connect Ed phone message and e-mail sent out to parents as soon as information is made available.
