  6. What Questions The boy is eating watermelon. What is the boy eating? She is painting a picture. What is she painting?

  7. Who Questions The dentist is helping the boy. Who is helping the boy? The boy is listening to music. Who is listening to music?

  8. Where Questions Where is the tree? The tree is next to the house. Where is the fence? The fence is in front of the house. Where are the flowers? The flowers are in the baskets.

  9. Who, What, Where Questions The man is wearing a hat. Who is wearing a hat? The man is cutting meat. What is he cutting?

  10. What are possessives? • Possessives show ownership. • They show something belongs to someone or something. In other words, they “possess” something. • For example, if we want to show that a book belongs to the boy, it would be stated: the boy’s book To form the possessive of a singular noun, add an apostrophe (‘) and s (‘s)

  11. Showing Possession • Singular • the hat belonging to the girl = the girl’s hat. • the coat belonging to the boy = the boy’s coat. • the title belonging to the book = the book’stitle REMEMBER: You need to add both the apostrophe 'and the s

  12. Practice Singular Possessives • The lady owns the coat. • the lady’s coat • The man has a belt. • the man’s belt • Frank owns the boat. • Frank’s boat

  13. How might you say these ideas using possessive form? • the coat belongs to the girl • the girl’s coat • the bone belongs the the dog • the dog’s bone • the pencil belongs to the teacher • the teacher’s pencil • The jump ropes belong to the students • the students’ jump rope

  14. Tip! • Even when a singular noun already ends in -s, you must still add an apostrophe and an -s to form the possessive. • The class’s test scores were high.

  16. With Used to indicate being together or being involved: I ordered a sandwich with a drink. He was with his friend when he had accident. She has been working with her sister at the nail shop. The manager will be with you shortly. Used to indicate "having": I met a girl with green eyes. Were you the one talking with an accent? People with a lot of money are not always happy. Used to indicate "using": I wrote a letter with the pen you gave me. This is the soup that I made with rice and barley. He cut my hair with his gold scissors. Used to indicate agreement or understanding: Are you with me? Yes, I am completely with you. She agrees with me.
