Standards • GPS Focus Standards: • BCS-BCSII-11- The student will examine career requirements, job responsibility, employment trends, and opportunities for careers in business. • a) Discuss characteristics and opportunities that lead to the development of a successful career in entrepreneurship management, marketing, and banking and finance. • b) Create a logo, slogan, letterhead, and business card for an imaginary business. • GPS Academic Standards: • ELA7R2 – The student understands and acquires new vocabulary and uses it correctly in reading and writing. • ELA7W2 – The student demonstrates competency in a variety of genres. • ELA7W3 – The student uses research and technology to support writing. • ELA7W4 – The student consistently uses the writing process to develop, revise, and evaluate writing. • ELA7LSV1 – The student participates in student-to-teacher, student-to-student, and group verbal interactions.

  4. vocabulary • Business Card – a small card with a person’s name, business affiliation, and contact information • Entrepreneur – a person who has an idea and turns it into a business; a business owner who assumes the risk for a business venture. • Letterhead – a sheet of stationery printed with the business name and address at the top • Logo – a name, symbol, or trademark designed for easy recognition; an iconic representation of business • Slogan - a catch phrase used to represent a business or product; a motto

  14. Can you guess the logos and/or slogans? Just do it! I’m Loving It! Save Money. Live Better

Your Turn… • Develop a logo and slogan for a business of your own. • You may use Microsoft Office Word or Publisher. • Please use the drawing tools to create your logo design. • Please use word art to type your slogan. • Save each file separately. • The file names should be “logo” and “slogan”. • Have three classmates “peer edit” your documents. • Print and turn in. • ***Don’t forget your name, date, and class period.***

  17. Tips for a Professional Look • Keep the design simple and clean. • Limit the number of fonts. (No more than two.) • Utilize bold and italicize sparingly.

  21. Summary • Business cards represent you when you aren't’t there. • Should present you and your business in a positive way. • Must include all of the information needed for the customer to be able to contact you.

Your Turn… • 1 – Open Microsoft Publisher • 2 – Choose a business card template. • 3 – Include the following information on your business card. • Name • Title • Business/Organization Name • Contact Information • Phone # & Fax # • Mailing Address • Email & Web Address • Logo/Slogan • 4 – Save the document in your BCS folder as “business cards”. • 5 – Ask three classmates to peer edit your business card. • 6 – Print business cards. (printer B115 – 5110, multiple images per sheet)
