  4. Rotary Clubs and RI Rotary International is the association of Rotary clubs throughout the world. Rotary clubs exist to encourage the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise. Rotary International as a whole is only effective if its member clubs are effective. Rotary clubs fulfill the Object of Rotary and the four Avenues of Service by being effective clubs. Effective Clubs Effective clubs are identified by their ability to: • Sustain and grow their membership base • Implement successful service projects in the community and communities in other countries • Support the Rotary Foundation both financially and through program participation • Develop leaders capable of serving in Rotary beyond the club level SRS District Trainer 05/2008

  7. Sustain/Grow Membership • Effective Rotary clubs should strive to keep current members and bring in new members. To be effective, Rotary clubs need committed, knowledgeable members who wish to provide service. More members results in: • More service potential for a club • More supporters of The Rotary Foundation • A larger pool of potential leaders SRS District Trainer 05/2008

RI Vision • Rotary will be recognized for its leadership and success in the eradication of polio. • Rotary will have a strong and visible presence worldwide. • Rotary will achieve enhanced capacity for friendship and service through a strong organization with increased and diverse membership. • Rotary will advance its ideals of high ethical standards, international understanding, goodwill and peace, through a membership united in service.   10. Leaders Beyond the Club Level Effective clubs plan for the future by continually developing potential leaders for office at all levels of the organization. Strong leaders at each level of Rotary ensures that clubs accomplish their goals. This also guarantees that their combined efforts are able to accomplish goals no club could achieve on their own. Elements of an Effective Club Using the elements of an effective club as guidelines, the members of the club, the district leadership team, and the RI Board work together to ensure that all clubs are functioning and help those that are not. Club Leadership Plan • develop a long-range plan as an effective club - set annual goals (Planing guide for effective….) - keep members involved in the planning process - ensure clear communication; club president, board, (assistant-) governor, district committees - provide continuity in leadership - amend bylaws; committees, roles, leadership - increase fellowship among members of the club - ensure that every member is active in a club project or function - develop a training plan for club leaders, new members and educational plan for all members SRS District Trainer 05/2008

Club Committees • Besides the four avenues of Service there should be standing committees for: • Membership; plan for recruitment/retention • Club Public Relation; information to the public • Club Administration; effective operations • Service Projects; organizing the service • The Rotary Foundation; plan and support SRS District Trainer 05/2008
