  2. Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Acts 2:38

  3. 3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. 4 For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love 5 hepredestined us for adoption to sonshipthrough Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will— 6 to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves. 7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace 8 that he lavished on us. With all wisdom and understanding, 9 hemade known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, 10 to be put into effect when the times reach their fulfillment—to bring unity to all things in heaven and on earth under Christ. 11In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will, 12 in order that we, who were the first to put our hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory. 13 And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.

  4. 11 In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will, 12 in order that we, who were the first to put our hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory. 13 And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth (the premise), the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit (the Person), 14 who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory. 15 For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all God’s people, 16 I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers.

Who is the Holy Spirit • The Creator (Genesis 1:2) Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. • The Helper (John 14:16 – 17) I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you.

  9. What is the meaning of BEING “sealed in Christ with the promised Holy Spirit”?

  10. In Matthew 27:66, the tomb of Jesus was secured by sealing it and putting guards around it. In Revelation 20:3 God throws Satan into a pit and seals it over so he can't escape. So, one meaning is locking something up, closing it in. • Romans 4:11 where Abraham's circumcision is called the sign and seal of the righteousness he had by faith. 1 Corinthians 9:2 Paul says that his converts are the seal of his apostleship. So, a second meaning of sealing is giving a sign of authenticity. • A third meaning is found in Revelation 7:3 where the seal of God is put on the forehead of God's servants to protect them from the coming wrath upon the world.

  11. The Spirit seals shut: He seals in faith and seals out unbelief and apostasy. • The Spirit seals us as a sign of authenticity: He is that sign and it is the Spirit's work in our life which is God's trademark. • The Spirit marks us with God's seal: He protects us from evil forces.

  15. The Holy Spirit coaches us to be like Christ. • The Holy Spirit draws out the champion in us. • The Holy Spirit is making us big and small, hard and soft; all at the same time.

  16. Big - predestined us for adoption to sonshipthrough Jesus Christ (Ephesians 1:5) • Small - Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. (Ephesians 5:21) • Hard - I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being…Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us (Ephesians 3:16 &20) • Soft - Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. (Ephesians 4:2)
