  1. Wind Power Oran Barr, Alonso De Lamo Downey, Eoin Irwin, James Gormley, Daniel Doran.

  2. What is the alternative Energy Resource? • An Alternative Energy Resource is a resource that can be used over and over again without running out. • An Alternative Energy Resource can also only be used once and can run out. • The Alternative Energy Resource that we chose was Wind Power.

  3. How does Wind Power Work? The Sun heats our atmosphere unevenly, so some patches become warmer than others. These warm patches of air rise, other air blows in to replace them - and we feel a wind blowing. We can use the energy in the wind by building a tall tower, with a large propellor on the top. The wind blows the propellor round, which turns a generator to produce electricity.

  4. 4 Advantages of Wind Power • Wind is free, wind farms need no fuel. • Produces no waste or greenhouse gases. • The land beneath can usually still be used for farming. • Wind farms can be tourist attractions

  5. 2 Disadvantages of Wind Power • The wind is not always predictable - some days have no wind. • Suitable areas for wind farms are often near the coast, where land is expensive.

  6. Explanation of our choice • We chose Wind Power because everybody agreed that wind power had: • The best definition of how it works. • The best set of Advantages. • The best set of Disadvantages.

  7. Our Summary of points made • Wind Power is a good Alternative Energy Resource because it is free. • It is a good method of supplying energy remote areas. • We also used: • http://www.darvill.clara.net • to help us with this PowerPoint.
