  1. Preparation of TIF Hall for Production AndreyMarinov On behalf of GEMs for CMS Collaboration

  2. TIF – bldg. 186

  3. Plan of the working space

  4. Part of the Working area

  5. Possible Scenarios • Scenario 1 – Gluing procedure, assembly and QC at the TIF hall. • Scenario II – Using the self stretching method and assembly at CERN’s workshop. The TIF will be used only for QC of the final detectors.

  6. Scenario I – Using the Gluing procedure and thermo stretching method. • TIF hall will be used for assembly and QC.

  7. Production Flow High Eta CMS MPGDs in TIF by Using the Thermo Stretching and Gluing Method HV test of the GEM Foil Heating the GEM foil in the oven up to 37C Gluing the foil with the frame HV test of the GEM Frame Storage Foils cleaning Storage Frames Assembly and Gluing Gas tight test QC tests certification Assembly the electronics and services

  8. Scenario II • Using self stretching method • The detectors will be fully assembled at CERN workshop. The TIF will be used only as QC facility

  9. Gas Setup Pressure reducer Safety Valve Open/Close Valves Ar CO2 CF4 premixed Exhaust Line Patch Panel Inside Bldg 186 – GEM Lab Outside Gas Zone at bldg.186

  10. Outside Gas Zone Very Big Gas zone – enough for the production project

  11. TIF Hall – Gas Infrastructure 13.2m GAS Mixer Main panel GAS access points 8m 7.2m 2.3m 6m

  12. QC Stands • Cosmic Telescope • Possibility to test up to 10 detectors together • X-ray stand for uniformity scan and gain calibrations. • Long Term HV test stand

  13. Cosmic Telescope • Testing the GE 1/1 detectors with cosmic rays • Time distribution • Strip Profile • Efficiency • Cluster Size • Reconstruction of the tracks GEM detectors Scintilator Counters

  14. X-ray Stand Gain Calibration of the Detector Precise Uniformity Scan

  15. Long Term HV stand GAS Return HV Supply Every detector is on independent HV channel Fully monitored environment T, H and Atmospheric pressure need to be continuously recorded GAS Supply

  16. Plan of Activities • Preparing the internal gas infrastructure • Placing cable trays for the pipes and cables – Ongoing, should be finished next week. 28.06.2011 • Planning the main gas mixer based on the production and test processes requirements • Preparing the external gas setup.
