  8. Introduction Ahli Wind Energy Project (AWEP) • AWEP is a pioneer project in Palestine that is funded by the EU . This project will directly benefit Al-Ahli Hospital from the Wind Energy . • Wind Turbine and Solar Thermal System will be used to achieve the goal of the project. • Objectives • To produce ~30-40 % of the hospital Power needs. • To reduce the environmental costs, such as carbon emissions. • To provide the hospital with an alternative source of power. • Increasing the awareness of the local community • Building the capacity of the hospital’s staff and its associates. Some Facts about AL Ahli Hospital • Electricity 1,791,045KWh/year.(2009). • Diesel 233,352 Liters /year.(2009), this is equivalent to 2,238,545 KWh/year. • Electricity consumption Invoice on 2009 = 240,000 €. • Diesel consumption invoice on 2009 = 245,950 € • Total energy consumption = 4,029,590 KWh/year • Total energy bill = 485,950€ Prepared By Eng.   33. Wind Turbine Expected Outcome • Electricity Saving from wind turbine = 330,000 KWh/year / 1,791,045KWh/year *100% = 18.4 % per year. • Saving of electricity bill = 18.4% * 240,000 € = 44,160 €. Solar Thermal Expected Outcome • The daily energy required from the SWHS is 50% of the daily thermal energy consumption, which equals 2.238.545X50% = 1.119.272 • Our SWHS (Solar Water Heating System) is designed to save 1,200,000 Kwh/year; this is equivalent to a saving of 53.6% (3287Kwh/day). • The average solar radiation on the horizontal surface in Palestine is 5400wh/m2/day. • The area of the solar collector is 2.55m2 • The number of the necessary solar collectors is 355. • Each collector of this type has a supposed production of (0.77 Kwh). • The total area of the collectors is 905m2. • The hot water storage tank capacity is 5X4 m3. • The daily production of the SWHS is 23.0 m3 (at 70cº). • The annual production of SWH is 8395.5m3.
