  2. Start Our Purpose and Aim The Children's and Youth Work Team is a strategic investment by the Diocese of York as part of it’s wider commitment to children and young people. The 'Fully Alive in God' framework provides an outline for parish mission and ministry that will see children and young people grow in faith and active service. In line with 'Generous Churches Making and Nurturing Disciples' our aim is to advise, enable and empower the local church. diocese, children and young people.

  3. Start Christ-likeness We endeavour to encourage a deepening of personal relationship with Christ in both leaders and young people, through offering quality events, training programmes, retreats and support; including the use of a dedicated Facebook page and email network.

  4. Start Commitment We seek to enable both diocese and parish in their commitment to children and young people as well as enabling personal faith commitment by young people. To this end 'Fully Alive in God’ aims to bring about positive experiences of God, help develop discipleship, build confidence in sharing faith, seek for a just society, be actively involved in worship, care for the environment and to value each other in the church. XLS, XL-Children, The Big Night Out, Girls Weekend, SPREE weekend among many other activities help to contribute to a growing commitment to and by children and young people

  5. Start Influence Contact with clergy and leaders is maintained through networking, regular visiting and speaking engagements which enable us help parishes think through some of the issues we face today. We seek to influence change which aims to make church a better place for young people and those who walk alongside them. Key to this is our relationship with leaders and the quality of the advise we give, our communication and networking. We also seek to influence the Church through enabling the voice of children and young people to be heard in the whole life of the church.

  6. Start Partnership Working ‘with’ is crucial. Our primary partnership is with parishes, volunteers, paid workers, clergy and PCC’s. We bring people together for training, retreats, and events for children and young people. This year we encouraged young people to run their own projects with the ‘XLS150 fund’. Increasingly we are working with other partners and agencies in the delivery of training, events and activities. 'The Big Night Out' at Lightwater Valley is now the largest Christian Youth event in the North, with 6 partners involved in 2012. 'Faith in Young People’ is a multi-denominational group that aims to resource the wider Church, and we have worked with ‘The Child Bereavement Charity’ in delivering specific bereavement training. We network with voluntary and statutory agencies as well as national Diocesan Advisers. We continue to maintain a Youth Work link in South Africa.

  7. Start Numbers Our objective here is to encourage growth through offering good quality events that parishes feel confident in and where young people can feel comfortable in bringing their friends. For example XLS and XL-Children help support and encourage existing members to grow in faith and discipleship. The Big Night Out has at it’s core gentle evangelism through a great day out. Events for young people encourage self confidence and peer evangelism. Training and equipping leaders helps them to confidently seek growth.
